For a while, I had been contemplating a septum piercing. I already had a fair few piercings in my ears, along with two lip piercings, and both nostrils, and had toyed with the idea of this one for a few months.

Two of my good friends, Annabelle and Jamie had both told me that their septum piercings hurt a lot, but in the end I just put that down to individual pain thresholds, and, even though I am a wimp, I decided to go for it anyway.
With a few weeks to go until I left school forever, I dragged my friend Jake along to the piercing shop with me, where I was greeted by the usual crowd. I asked if anybody was around who could pierce me, and was told Alex could, so I filled out the forms like I had done a thousand times before and walked through to the piercing room, with Jake in tow for support!
I took a seat on the bed thing, already feeling a bit nervous and Alex started cleaning my nose and marking me up. He put his fingers up my nose which felt really strange, and drew some dots with the pen, changed gloves and got all the stuff ready to begin.
By this point I was getting pretty nervous and my palms were all clammy and skanky, so I grabbed on to Jake and waited for immense pain as Alex started to pierce.
Funny thing was, I squeezed Jake's hand so tight because I was sure it would hurt I ended up leaving nail marks, but all I felt was when the jewellry got threaded through, and even then it wasn't painful!
I took a look in the mirror and totally fell in love with the cute little silver "U" shaped piece of jewellry which was not through the middle of my nose. I practiced tucking it up, so it couldn't be seen, flicked it back down again and left the piercing room.
I paid, thanked Alex, and said goodbye to the people in the shop, and headed out for a much needed cigarette, with Jake bitching about his hand.
Immediately after leaving the shop, as I went to put the cigarette in my mouth, I smacked myself square in the nose, which hurt so incredibly badly, I thought I was about to cry!
The next few days were quite cool, adjusting to the addition of another piece of metal in my face. The only problems I really had was forgetting it was there and sneezing, or blowing my nose, or something, which hurt terribly. Cleaning was a doddle and didn't hurt too badly, the first few days it stung a little from the salty water I used to clean it, but there wasn't much gunk.
I had been warned by Alex that about 3 days after the piercing, I would begin to experience the stench of rotting meat in my nose, but I cant say I ever did, unless I just didnt notice it! The piercing took around a month to fully heal, and now it takes a bit of a beating when I play fight with my friends or something equally ridiculous.
My mother didn't really like the piercing, and my dad was horrified at the "brutality" of it, but nothing I do really surprises them now, and neither of them were angry. My friends immediately fell in love with it, and I found it very easy to hide at school, by flicking the ring up my nose.
Months on, and my septum had healed nicely. The only time it ever bothers me is if I have a cold, then it gets all crusted up with snot and crap, which isn't very attractive. I changed the jewellry to a bigger CBR, just without the ball on it, and I'm now considering stretching it slightly.
People always ask me about my piercings, because I have seven of them on my face, and they are always most shocked about my septum. People ask if it hurt, if I cried, where abouts I had it pierced and, then start talking about their own body mods, which I find is a fascinating insight into other peoples' opinions.
All in all, I think my septum is my favourite piercing so far. I have a few more planned but they might have to wait untill i have some more cash!
If you're ever thinking about getting your septum pierced, just go for it, because the chances are, tomorrow, you'll be too afraid!
