The first time I saw a septum piercing was when my friend sent me a picture of one because she wanted hers done - I HATED it. Needless to say it grew on me and soon became a quest for me to have mine pierced. Due to horror stories and my fear of pain it took me two years to get the courage to do it.

I called on the Thursday and had to wait till the Sunday because of their waiting list, this probably wasn't the best day to get it pierced as it was the day after my eighteenth birthday but it would be weeks until they had another spare appointment.
On the day of the piercing, feeling a little worse for ware, I made my way into Great Bridge; I had to wait around for about half an hour due to me being early. I wasn't as nervous as I normally was when getting pierced, just a slight nervous feeling in my stomach.
I walked into Inskin 10 minutes early and was welcomed by Bev, kens wife. He was just finishing his lunch and I was asked whether I would like a drink, I said was alright and that id just had one, really it was because the thought of digesting anything at this point made me feel queasy. I sat in the waiting room talking to Bev until my appointment time and then Ken took me into the piercing room. He sat me down on the dentist like chair and explained everything he was going to do. He went onto say that I would more than likely feel a little nip which would last about two seconds. As he was preparing the equipment he was cracking jokes and making me feel at ease, so much so I didn't feel nervous at all.
After feeling around my nose for my septum Ken sprayed antiseptic spray up my nose which just feels a little weird, like when you jump into a pool to fast and water goes up your nose. He then went onto put the clamps on my nose which was the most uncomfortable part of the experience, it wasn't painful just a weird sensation having a metal object clamped on your septum.
This was when I saw the needle and started to panic a little bit, he explained that because of the angle of my septum he would have to use a thicker needle so it would heal straight. Trying not to appear like a baby I just sat their and waited for the terrible pain I'd been hearing so much about. He pushed it half way through, so far I'd felt nothing but a little pressure then he pushed it out of the other side which didn't hurt at all just a strange pop.
As he put the jewellery he told me that taking zinc tablets would help the healing process, I wasn't paying that much attention I just kept saying seriously was that it? He gave me a couple of tissues because it was bleeding slightly and I got up off the chair grinning like a Cheshire cat because it was the most painless piercing I have to date.
He showed me the piercing in the mirror and I instantly fell in love with it, it was beautiful. I asked him to show me how to flip it up; the ring was too small to flip up so he made it bigger using pliers. Afterwards he showed me how to flip it up and said once healed a retainer would more suit my face shape.
I was once again offered a drink; I declined and paid £25 for my piercing. Bev gave me a list of aftercare instructions and a little pot of cream to clean my septum with.
It's been a week since I've had it done and it is tender, not painful but very annoying. I made the mistake of swapping the jewellery too soon which I probably shouldn't have done.
I wish id got it done sooner, I'd recommend having this done any day, and it's my favourite piercing.
[Its been two months since I had my septum pierced, its still not completely healed due to me continuously knocking it about and been careless, but there's no pain at all, and the only down side to the piercing is that I have to have it flipped up 80% of the time due to work – which inevitably means more cleaning, because without sounding to gross you get snot on it. Its still my favourite piercing ever and id still recommend it, although I'm getting my tongue done next week so maybe that might overtake it, going to Inskin again, I seriously recommend them if you live in the midlands, id never have piercings done anywhere else, every piercing I have had there has healed perfectly and had no complications which I cant say about other piercings I've had in other shops]
