I had been thinking on getting my septum pierced for about a year now, but never worked up the nerve to actually get it done. I had researched septum piercings, read TONS of BME experinces, and talked to some people who had theirs done. I really wanted to get it done, but had heard that its one of the most painful piercings to get, and the more I thought about it the more I chickened out.

(I have had previous accidents trying to strech my ears out at home, one in which I had to go to the hospital after my ear tore and bleed for several hours. So now I leave it up to the professionals.) My best friend, Terrah, was with me so we stopped into the shop to get my tunnels put in. The piercer is a girl I actually went to high school with, Jessica, So im pretty comfortable with her work. After she had gotten my tunnels in, Terrah had decided to get her industrial pierced while we were there. (which went very well, and she is quite please with her new piercing.) However, watching Terrah made me want to get something pierced, so I finally decided to do it.
Jessica went to get set up, and I took a few minutes to get some fresh air outside while I waited.(also took a bathroom break so I could, um, pick the boogies out before she went poking around in my nose.) I was really nervous, which I always am when getting something done. When we went back in she was all ready for us. She had her apprentance come watch, and the shop was pretty quite so some of the other guys were standing around watching too.
Jessica showed me the jewlery that she had. I had originally wanted a horse shoe, but the 16 gauge ones that she had looked really ugly, they were pretty big in diameter. So I settled for a captive ring with the bead removed so that I could flip it up into my nose for work.
Once she was all washed and gloved up she took a alcohol wipe and wiped the inside of my nostrils out, and basically re-picked my nose. It was slightly akward having someone else stick their fingers up your nose and pick around. Now I was really getting nervous, I am such a big wimp when it comes to piercings, and to make things worse my lobes were still smarting from the streching. Jessica put the septum clamp on my nose, and boy did it smart! My eyes instantly watered up a bit. I made her wait a few seconds before she put the needle through. (even though the clamps hurt they were'nt unbarable, and I always need a second before the actuall needle part.)
After telling her "Wait!" twice when she went to pierce it, I was finally like "Ok just do it!". She told me to take a deep breath in as she put the needle in place. "Big breath in" and she slid the needle on through. It was fairly quick. My eyes watered up instantly, it looked like I had been crying. It hurt a little, but not nearly as much as everyone said it would. I would pry do it again if I had to. Its more uncomfortable than anything, like a burning sensation. And it was over in a flash. Jessica told me to keep breathing deep breaths as she put the jewlery in.
After she had gotten the captive ring in, she took some time to loosen it up, so that I could flip the ring up in my nose so that it wouldnt be seen if I didnt want it to be. It took her a few minutes to get it right where she wanted it. The she told me to take a look. It looked beautiful! I loved it! And everyone said that I had the nose for it too. Then I sat back down and she flipped it up for me and cleaned it.
After that I paid her and tipped her. I also bought some H2Ocean spray to clean it with. Now its the next day, and its sore, but not too bad. I like having something that know one else knows about, its kinda like my own little secret. Once its healed I will purchase a horseshoe ring and put that in so I can wear it down more. I think it looks a little funny down with it being a captive ring. But I finally got the piercing I had wanted for a long time, and im glad I did it.
