Well, I've never been very good at retelling events in my life but I'll give it my best go. ;) Hopefully I'll actually have some helpful information to share with new DIY piercers.

Ever since I had my lip pierced over two years ago with my aunt (She paid 70$ for me to get it done. O_o)...I've been totally obsessed with anything modification. (Though, Not so much extreme mods. It's usually just too much for me.) Especially facial piercings and tattoo sleeves. But I live in a small 'retirement home' in Newfoundland, Canada...Meaning there's absolutely nothing to do with tattoos and piercings. They used to give me strange looks just for wearing my falls. I was totally stuck on getting at least one piercing done, though.

So, I took it into my own hands...I signed up for a paypal account then ordered a small piercing kit and jewelry off of a site I found. (I can't remember the name of it now.) It took forever to arrive but when it finally came...I sat down with the kit and knew exactly what I wanted done! My septum. :) Now, This is not to say I did it right then and there. I went on line for the next couple days and researched everything about getting your septum done, made sure there was nothing I could puncture or stab...Well, Other then the opposite side of my nose. I don't recommend anyone doing a DIY piercing without first doing your research and making sure you have the proper tools to do it with. There's no point rushing it and screwing up your face. Also, With the septum...I definately recommend you have lots of paper towel or tissue paper because your nose and eyes run like crazy!

Anyway, I sterilized the needles and jewelry then set myself up on the floor of my room. Then came the hard part...Marking my septum and trying to line it up perfectly. I sat there for at least a half hour just trying to figure out how to get it straight and where I wanted it. I read online earlier that there's a soft spot you're supposed to pierce through but actually attempting to find that yourself is a bitch. I finally felt comfortable enough with the placement and lined the needle up...Waited a few minutes with my eyes closed then breathed in deep and started pushing. Now...The most important part...Don't do what I did!! I pushed really slow and took my time with it because I wanted to make sure it was straight. But believe me...Ouch. In the end, It was a little crooked...Not that you can notice from the front but when I tilt my head back you can tell it's pierced closer to the nostril on the right.

Just a piece of advice, Be careful. Take your time and research the piercing. Sometimes you can paralyze parts of your face or lose sensitivity. What good is having your eyebrow or cunt pierced if you can't bloody feel it? Also, The reason for me doing it myself wasn't just the lack of professionals but also the love of trying out new things...It's rather exciting driving something through your body and feeling it enter then exit. A good reason is not to piss off your parents or because you have nothing better to do at 12. Especially when the only thing you have to use is a dirty nail or safety pin. (I admit I tried that once on my lip with a safety pin. The swelling was insane! I was such a smart kid.)

Best piercing ever, though. :) It's really comfortable and ever since it's healed I don't even notice it's there. (Though, Beware...The septum piercing can get quite smelly when you sweat. I didn't find that out until after a couple weeks of smelling something rank. Just make sure to wash it every time it starts to smell a little.) I simply adore it! And can't wait for more to come. (Maybe my bridge next! Has anyone ever had any problems with their bridge and glasses hitting each other? Or getting caught? I worry about that.)

I definately recommend this piercing to anyone not looking for anything really noticeable. With a retainer you can just pop it up inside your nose and no one even notices it's there. Though, I've never gotten the reason for having a piercing if you're just going to hide it. ;) After going through all the pain of getting it done...I'm definately going to proudly show it off as much as possible.

Anyway, If I forgot anything don't be afraid to ask. :) I'm not an expert, that's for sure, but I'll do my best to point you in the right direction. (AKA - The best information sites I know.)
