I never thought I would get a septum piercing. I had always thought that to get one you had to be one of those "super hardcore people" with holes the size of golf balls in your ears and face and listen to metal. I also used to think that they were unfeminine and ugly - on most people. I don't have the opportunity to get any piercings that would be visible to the general public...aka my parents...aka my boss. So i started thinking about what piercings I could get that would be hidden or easily hidden. My first thought was "hey get your nipples pierced!" that idea was quickly squashed on the grounds of ouchies. I didn't want to get anything in my pants, because I'm not quite that brave. A septum piercing briefly crossed my mind and i thought hey why not look into it some more. I read hundreds of experiences on BME, looked at tons of pictures and finally decided that maybe someday soon, i would get my septum pierced. I never knew that if pierced with a small retainer, a septum piercing can actually look quite p retty on girls! I fell in love with that small, shiny retainer in a record amount of time. After making up my mind, and bothering Jonah/Lumpy a bit about the process/aftercare/pain/etc. I told them I would do it. However, after seeing how shiny and light-catching the steel retainers were I asked them to order me a niobium one because I was convinced it would be less visible. The consequences that would occur if my mom ever sees this piercing would be...oh, very bad. Also, because I ordered a retainer special I was locking myself into actually getting it done. It wouldn't be very nice if I asked them to order it and then backed out, right? Plus I had already paid for the thing...

That and the fact that I just could not grow a pair of balls and make myself go to see Jonah and let him put another hole in my head. Finally after a long vacation and the fact that my head cold had gone away (constantly blowing my nose with a new septum piercing was easily a bad idea)
This morning I went in to the shop to tell him I would not be getting it done that day, I just wanted to check on the retainer itself. Little did I know I would be back later on to go through with it! We talked a little and I bought some glass jewelry...
Fast forward time! My good friend Katie CONVENIENTLY got off work at 5 today and after hearing that I decided I was dragging her with me for moral support and motivation to not chicken out. I informed her of this and she agreed. I mean, who wouldn't be excited to see their best friend get stabbed in the face?
I surprised myself by not being too nervous. When I got there I told Lumpy I was actually going to go through with it that night. He told me "Yeah right. I'll believe you when I see you come out of that room with it in your face" Oh, Ye of little faith. Jonah finished up a piercing and I filled out paperwork (which I've now memorized) and waited to be called in. Jonah came out of the room, he saw me, I pointed to my nose and gave him a thumbs up. There are no words needed anymore, haahaha. Anyways. The procedure itself was really fast and actually, pretty painless. I sat down on the table while he prepped all the tools and set everything up. I knew this part, this was the easy part. Everything is autoclaved and packaged separately. He puts the clamps on my nose after nicely asking me not to kick him when he pierces me. He didn't mark my nose which didn't surprise me as he's never marked with any of the other piercings he's done for me and they've all turned out perfectly. So I trust his judgment/placement of sharp metal. After slightly freaking out seeing the needle come up to my face i closed my eyes . BAM. Not too bad, totally bearable, over really quickly. My eyes didn't water at all. Putting the jewelry in was uneventful, I didn't really feel it. After all was said and done, Lumpy was called in for PROOF that I had gone through with it! No, it's not a magnet. It was one of the best piercing experiences I've had to date, really bearable pain, and right now I can't even feel it. It feels as if it;s been there forever.
Anyone thinking about a septum piercing, go for it. It doesn't hurt too badly and it's really easily hidden. You can't see it unless you look directly up your nose. The End.
