My wonderful septum experience...

Before the piercing: I had always wanted a septum piercing, but I was always afraid it was going to hurt too much and I didn't know if it would look good on me or not. I have two tattoos on the front of my shoulders that I didn't think hurt too bad. I also have my smiley and my webbing done along with nine other ear piercings and my ears are stretched to 7/16's, but it seemed like it was going to be painful. I decided to go for it though because it was a Friday night, I had just got paid, and I had really wanted to get it done for a long time anyways. So, I grabbed my two best friends, who always go with me to get my piercings done, and we headed up to Mystic. I walked in, chit – chatted a little while with the people I knew that were there and then my friend, Mason, got me all signed up and all that good stuff. Then, he told Ryan (The piercer that was there) that I was waiting for him in the back room.

The Piercing (finally!): Once my piercer came into the room, we talked for a little while about the jewelry he going to put in (because I have to flip it up at work and at home), the healing instructions, and the pain factor of course. I had told him that I was pretty nervous about getting it done, but I had wanted it for so long that I finally decided to get it whether or not I was nervous. He told me that it was pretty quick, but it was going to hurt like every other piercing I had previously gotten. To begin, I was told to breathe through my mouth until it was done, which is harder then it sounds when you are nervous and trying to concentrate on it. So then he wiped my nose down with alcohol and lined up the piercing on my nose with the pens that they always use to mark piercings. Then, he lined up the septum clamp, and then lined up the needle. He told me to take a deep breath and it was done! My eyes did water really badly, but all I had felt was a hard pinch. It did hurt worse than any other piercing I had, but it wasn't really that bad. He placed the jewelry in and cleaned me up as much as he could. He tried to wipe the purple line off my nose, but it wasn't coming off, then he told me I would have to try to scrub it off later (I eventually got it off at my friend's house). Then he placed the jewelry in my nose; I had to ask him if he had put the jewelry in yet because I hadn't felt it go through the hole yet! I then got a cherry freezy pop, some aftercare instructions, some triple antibiotic ointment, and I was all set!

Aftercare: So far the aftercare has been really easy. All I have to do is apply triple antibiotic ointment to it for the next week, and then I can switch to using Bactine. It only takes about 6 to 22 weeks to heal, but since I usually heal relatively fast it shouldn't take the full 22 weeks. My septum isn't too sore, it has been only a little bit crusty around the edges, and it didn't really swell. I expected it to be a lot worse then it has been. The worse part of the piercing is that I want to show it off to everyone and I cant! It doesn't even hurt to flip it up for work or when I'm at home, since I have to because my parental units will freak out on me. In fact, when flipped up you can't even see it really, no one has noticed at work or at home. In a few days I can start using my bactine and I will be all set with it! I can't wait to change my jewelry to a captive or horseshoe! I have even been thinking about stretching it out a little in the future. I just want like a ten gauge in it or something, not hing too big. I don't think it would look good on me if I stretched it out past a ten. I'm so excited for it! It's safe to say that I love my new septum piercing and I'm so happy I decided to get it done! Yes, it hurts, but don't let that stop you like I did because it's not bad at all! I recommend it to anyone who is thinking about this piercing! It's a wonderful life changing experience!
