In spite of the variety of remarks regarding my septum, from the, "you look like a bull" or "you would have been better off with a nostril..." I still love it. It hit me about two weeks ago, when my friend got her second nipple done down at next! on Granville. She warned me that next! is great, and that I should really consider getting my septum done, (which has been on my list for a while now.) I agreed almost instantly, and could not wait for the remainder of the week!

Now, being the girl who only has 4 piercings all together, this is kind of a big step. I have 2 on each of my lobes, I haven't really considered doing more on my ears in general, but I guess nothing else really stuck out as much as the septum does for me. I informed my mother that I was going to go get it done, which was a bit of a struggle, but later on both decided that I was fit for my own decisions, after all, I am 17 now!

So then came the week of waiting. Waiting! This did give me time to do a bit of research on BME and I also did a little reading on next!'s site. Then it all came down to Thursday, the only day my boyfriend was free of working that also fitted the open hours of next! We sky trained it there and stopped on Granville. I was really stoked about the whole thing, and kept picturing a tiny retainer in my head.

We arrived at about 3 and was greeted by this kind lady at the front desk, then paid for my septum. I was a bit nervous by then, but I was constantly informed that it was going to be great! Although I did not even really know what I was scared of, maybe it was the pain I had in my head? I have heard many varieties of stories about the lack of pain, or complaints of how much it hurt. I told myself it was not the pain I was worried about.

The man at the front desk (who by the way I find out later is Jacob) asked me if I wanted the bar, he also said it would look better than a retainer and informed me that I could also flip it up for work, so I instantly agreed.

We were a bit earlier then the next group, so we stopped by burger king and had a little bite. I was far from nervous in the restaurant. I was giddy! My boyfriend told me I often do that when I'm nervous, but I did not feel as if I were at all.

Then the time came, and we were to head back to next! Then I felt something. I glanced at the mirror in the front, which had a sticker stating, "no drama queens allowed!" which was really cute. He called us in almost immediately, so I took my boyfriend in with me, along with a girl doing her nipple and another doing her tongue. Jacob spent a good 10 minutes talking over the cleaning process with us, which made me comfortable. He went over that I should probably just use a Q-tip to clean mine, and to get rid of crusties before I rotate the piercing. I listening intently, and it was finally the time to get pierced.

The girl who wanted her tongue pierced went first, and I was surprised by how fast that went. He basically slipped the needle in, nice and clean, from what I remember and that was it! She said it did not hurt as much as she thought, which is good because she seemed really nice! We had a little conversation before Jacob returned with his needles.

So after that, I was up! Butterflies flourished my tiny stomach, and I sat up on the table, and my legs shook slightly. You can tell I was nervous. He cleaned my nose a bit, and played around, leaving the cleaning liquid hanging out of my nose and commenting on it! I believe his exact words were "you got a little something there!" what a kidder. Nice guy though!

He informed me that it was time to put the clamps in, which he said was probably going to be the worst part, which I did not mind at all. It was not that much pressure, I could handle it pretty well. After a few minutes of marking my nose, he told me to breathe in 3 times. He stuck the needle through on the third exhale. It was all pretty good! It did not hurt nearly as much as I thought it would! But I guess it really depends on the person, and how strong he or she is. I was relaxed by then. The needle was still in my nose, which was kind of funny to my boyfriend seeing as he laughed a bit when I turned my head over. When he stuck the receiving tube in, I could feel that a bit, just a little pressure. But it was all good! After that he put the bar in, screwed the ball in, and I was good to go. He told me to go look in the mirror behind me and I loved it. I was not use to it at first, but I love it! I instantly received compliments from Jacob and my boyfriend, and I was pretty glad I decided to go through wi th it! I left the room with a large grin on my face. I was really glad I went to next!

The day after, it hurt when I bumped it, but no pain otherwise. Then almost a week after, I felt great! I flip it up when I go to sleep though; I have heard stories about it ripping out when you are asleep. I did not want to take that risk even if my jewelry was a bell bar. It also did not smell! People told me it was going to smell really bad and I was really concerned about that! (I can't take an excessive amount of odor)

It has been more than a week now, almost 2, and it feels great! I clean it with warm water and a Q-tip, but for the first couple of days I used soap, which really dried out my nose. Now it feels really healthy and I'm really sight about it!

I would recommend anyone who really wants it, to do it. And as for the pain, it really depends on the person I guess. I should not tell you all that it does not hurt, because it might for others. But really, the outcome is great! I feel great, and it looks great, honestly!
