My septum was a very spur-of-the-moment decision. It was a friday and I just got payed. I hadn't gotten a new piercing in a few months and I've always been interested by the septum. I called up the local shop I usually get all my mods done at and made an appointment for around 6.

By this time I was getting a little nervous, which usually happens, but I always go through with my piercings so I wasn't too worried about it. My boyfriend and I went downtown and picked up a septum retainer to get it pierced with so i could flip it up and hide it for work. I got to the shop a little earlier than expected and ending up running into a bunch of friends at the studio, one of them was getting their nose pierced. Some random outside asked me what I was having done, I told him and he asked "how big you gonna stretch it?" I told him I didn't plan on it. I still don't. My boyfriend and I hung out for a bit, had a smoke..and before I knew it, I was up.

I was greeted by someone I hadn't seen there before. He explained that he was the new piercer there. I was quite shocked and pretty disappointed but decided to go through with it anyways. Apparently my usual piercer had left to pursue other interests, which was great for her, I wasn't all that happy about it.

He took me to the back and we started chatting. I was pretty hesitant about my septum, I was convinced that it was going to hurt like hell. The piercer didn't have much of information to comfort me since this was his first septum! He asked if I still wanted to go through with it, although he had never done one before, I had already made it this far so I told him to go for it.

I took out my nostril ring to give him more room to work. After all the cleaning, disinfecting and marking he put the clamps on and I couldn't believe how much it hurt! I couldn't stand them! Every time he put them on my eyes would water and I would squirm. There was no way I could deal with it. He tried different spots, but every time he clamped down I would mutter an "ow" and he took them off. I told him to do the damned thing freehand, there was NO way I could deal with the clamps. After playing around with it for a bit and making sure this was going to work out I was getting impatient. I was uneasy about getting my septum done but I eventually just sat back and told him to giver'.

I felt the needle go through and it wasn't so bad, it was nothing too unbearable. The real pain came when he was trying to get the retainer in. The retainer had some pretty harsh curves in it and it didn't want to seem to go in the hole! I had blood all over the place, from my nose to my throat. He asked me several times if I wanted to give up and I told him to please keep trying. I was determined to have this done! After about five minutes of shoving and bleeding he said "hold on" and ran to to the back. He came back with a CBB and told me "no charge". There was no fuss at all, it went in perfectly. As soon as I heard "OK, all done!" I was excited that it had all worked out. I had a huge grin.

I got all cleaned up, put my nostril ring back in and was about ready to go pay. The piercer looked at me and said "wow, you are one tough bitch, I would have given up a long time ago if it was me in your spot!" I giggled a little and thanked him, payed him...all that fun stuff, and then I remembered about my job! How was i going to hide this bad boy? He explained that it would just be able to flip up in my nose regardless. I wish I would have known that earlier, it would have saved me a whole lot of blood and pain. I got the aftercare sheet and then I was off. I had finally did it and am happy to say that I was damn proud!

It turns out the ring did not flip up inside my nose, the balls were too big, and I couldn't get a grip on either one of the balls to take them off! I also didn't get to find this out until monday before work. I explained the problem to my boss and he said I could leave it in for that day but I would for sure have to do something about it for tomorrow. On my break I called the shop and they told me to come in after work, which I did, and it all worked out. He took them off for me and flipped it up.

The healing process was awful. It was always crusty, bleeding and if I even came anywhere close to touching it there was nasty pains throughout my whole nose that made my eyes water every time. I was also taking care of it properly so I had no idea what was wrong. It was like this for about two months but I decided to stick it out and see if anything got better. After the crap I went through to get the actual piercing it was going to take more than that for me to take it out. In the end, everything everything worked out and my septum healed just fine, I've had it done for quite awhile and i'm super happy with it. However, would I do it again? Never. :)
