Okay, I've had a bit of both experiences. You get those people, saying their septum's didn't hurt at all, did which was the case for my first one. Then you get the other people, saying it was really painful and bled a lot which was the case for my second.

The first septum piercing I got about 4-5 months ago was dodgy. Too low & far back, it sat weird against my face. I'd gotten it done at a crappy place with a crappy piercer. About a month and a bit ago, it fell out when I had a clear retainer in there. I felt naked for 2 weeks without it, even a little depressed. So I made up my mind, it was to be re-done in a week. But this time, I was going to a piercer who I had seen "in action".

I spent that whole week saving my money, even pinching a mere $10 out of the "money basket" which my mum has. When Sunday rolled around I rocked up with around $110 in my wallet, due to the fact I was supposed to have been shopping for clothes. I had decided to go to Essential Beauty, where friends of mine have been pierced countless times with me present.

My best friend came with me, she had already had her labret done by the same man who was doing my septum. We walked into Essential Beauty, had a chat to the lovely man who did Lucy's labret and was to be doing my septum! He said he could do it right then! The nerves started kicking in about then, even though I'd already been through the procedure before.

We went into a clean room with relaxing music playing and I hopped up on the table/bed/whatever you call it. I handed him the 14 gauge ring which i had used for my other septum which he then put it in a little cup with green disinfectant liquid in it. He cleaned it with a little antiseptic wipe and then got out what looked like an icy-pole stick and a purple marker, and began to mark where it was to be going through my nose. He marked it once, but I decided it looked too far back and asked him to do it again. We had a chat about it being high up so it wasn't visible when it was pushed up, unlike the other one. He finished marking it and once I said I was happy with it, he got out the clamp and put it on my septum.

Once the clamp was in the right spot, he said he was ready. I was shaking with nerves by this time, breathing heavy and basically just shit scared. He noticed how scared I was, and asked me if I wanted him to do a tragus piercing and come back and do mine. I agreed, and Lucy and I went into the next room where we waited for about 20 minutes and then went back in. He changed his gloves, and then he said he was ready when I was. I STILL wasn't ready (being the chicken I am). Then I heard the sound I longed for. The telephone rang! Another distraction to put off the pain.

He went away for a few minutes, came back, changed his gloves and said he was once again, ready when I was. I STILL wasn't ready. He said he could go and do a simple ear piercing and then we could do it. I was happy with that. Lucy and I waited another 10 minutes, he came back, put on more gloves and then said he was ready when I was.

This time, it was for real. He put the clamp on and fiddled around with it for a few minutes, just to make sure it was in the right position. He said he was ready when I was. This time, i didn't want to back out. I took hold of Lucy's hand, squeezed hard and said go!

Boy, did this time hurt! The tears started seeping out and I sobbed as the needle went through, and could feel blood running up my nose. As soon as the needle was gone, the pain subsided. He quickly put the ring in and said take a look. I absolutely LOVED it! The blood running down into my mouth was a nice touch too. He cleaned up the blood for me and said we were all done! I could not stop grinning, it looked amazing, SO much better than the old one. It was in the perfect spot. I jumped up from the table and gave him a great big hug. I was so happy.

We went out to the front counter where I paid $60 for my new piercing and where we went over aftercare.

A week and 3 days later, it hurts a little when I knock it but that's all in the healing process. I'm so incredibly happy, once again!
