My boyfriend, at the time, had one. My best friend had one. Numerous other friends had them.

And I wanted one. Badly.

After talking my mother into letting me get my septum pierced, I made her take me down to the piercing and tattoo shop in town. She repeatedly asked me, "Why are you getting it done if everyone tells you that it hurts so badly?". Of course, my answer was, "Because pain is temporary". Now, having gotten pierced before, I was used to the five seconds of pain but I was unusually nervous about this particular piercing.

My boyfriend had told me that it was so painful his eyes watered, yet he can take the pain of multiple tattoos, including ones on his neck and spine. I'd seen my best friend pass out afterwards, but she swore it was from alcohol. Either way, I was nervous. I'd never let that stop me, though. When I decide I'm getting something, I get it. It helped that I've wanted this particular piercing forever, and I was so happy to finally be getting it.

After much begging and pleading, I got my mother to agree to take me to the shop to get it done. Ten minutes after leaving my house, we were at the piercing and tattoo shop. I started getting a bit more nervous, and then I realized I was glad I'd eaten. Although I wasn't sure if I could take the pain, I walked into the shop anyway. I told Sherry what I wanted, she gave me the forms to fill out, and we talked for a little bit. She was the same piercer that had done my snakebites, so I was comfortable with her and her procedures. After all the forms were filled out and she got the needles, jewelry, jelly, iodine, and whatever else she needed, she led me back into the piercing room. She explained to me what she was going to do, and how she was going to do it. After I told her I understood everything, she stuck her fingers up my nose. It did feel weird, having someone's fingers up your nose, feeling around. Sherry told me that I (luckily) had a thin septum, and it would make it easier to pierce and less painful for me.

After making the dot, it came time to pierce me. Sherry explained to me that this was mainly a "blind" piercing, so it may not be completely straight when it's first pierced, but it would straighten itself out once it healed. She then told me to take a deep breath, and she stuck the needle through. It didn't hurt all that bad! I'd been worrying over nothing, and I sat there wondering why my friends had told me it was going to kill. In another two minutes or so, it was over, the jewelry was in. Sherry let me look in the mirror to make sure it was exactly where I wanted it. After I told her I loved it, she explained the aftercare to me, and gave me an approximate date when it would be healed. She also told me that I'm one of her favorite people to pierce, which is a huge compliment to me. I was told that I handle pain well, I don't move around too much when I'm getting pierced, and that I look adorable with any piercing. I couldn't ask for a sweeter lady to put holes in my body! Haha. I thanked her, paid for the piercing and tipped her, and walked out. I was the tiniest bit dazed/woozy, but it went away within a few minutes.

So ten minutes after going into the piercing shop, I walked out happy, with a freshly pierced septum and compliments from my piercer. I couldn't be happier with the entire visit to Liberty.

All in all, I had another great experience being pierced by Sherry. And hey, I can still make fun of the guy who was my boyfriend at the time and tell him that girls are much, much tougher than guys, reminding him that MY eyes didn't water when I got my septum pierced :)

Although I constantly get, "You look like a bull with that thing!",
which I'm sure anyone who has their septum pierced gets or has gotten at least once, I am in love with my septum piercing. I think they look gorgeous, and I also highly respect anyone who has the balls to stretch their septum.

Just as a side note... for anyone who lives in Eastern/Southeastern PA, in the Norristown/King Of Prussia/Collegeville area, I highly recommend Liberty Tattoo in Skippack, PA for piercings. I can't attest to the tattoos, as I've never had any done there, but Sherry is an amazing piercer who keeps an extremely clean shop. I've never heard any complaints, and I've personally never had any complaints or bad experiences there. Compliments to Sherry as well as Billy for running a great, clean, shop!
