Okay, so i've already got my nostril done and my lobes, but it wasn't really fulfilling my needs of body modification so I decided to try something new. I was thinking of all the different piercings that I wanted and all the piercings that I thought would look good on me and I came to the conclusion that I wanted to get my septum pierced. The next thing I had to do was convince my parents to let me get it done, and trust me, they weren't thrilled or surprised that I was asking for another piercing. For kids whose parents aren't a big fan of facial piercings, getting your septum done is a good choice because you can just get a horseshoe for your nose and then all you have to do is screw the balls off and flip it in your nose or else you can just get a retainer for it and it's very easily hidden. You could probably even get it done without your parents knowing at all. My friend did that actually. As I began to read up on the subject, I found a lot of people claiming that it was immensely painful and other saying it they didn't even feel it. I have a high pain tolerance, so I decided I didn't care and went in to get it done anyway. I went to a reliable place with a good reputation, as anyone who wants to get piercings should, it definitely wasn't one of the cheapest places I could have gone, but I figured i'd rather pay more and have it done well then pay hardly anything and have a crooked ugly piercing that I didn't want anymore. My septum piercing was actually my birthday present from my friend.

The sunday after my birthday, which was about a month ago, I went over to my friends house to prepared myself and calmed my nerves. We left to the shop where I had previously made my appointment. The guy who pierced my septum was covered in body mods and his ears were stretched pretty damn big, I could probably stick my fist though there. Anyway, I noticed my hands getting a little shaky and everything, not because I was nervous, but because I was excited. We went into the piercing room and Jason(my piercer) told me about the proper precautions and ways to clean it and all that jazz. I asked him if it would hurt a lot and he said it depends on the person. I wasn't scared though. He told me to lay back on this bed-type thing and tilt my head over the edge. I did so and he laughed at how little my nose was. He said that he was going to have to pierce it in steps to make sure that it was as straight as possible. I inhaled deeply and he punctured the skin a little, then adjusting the needle, he told me to take another deep breath and he pushed the needle in farther. I yelled in joy, it hurt a bit but it felt more weird and cool than anything. He did it one more time and then slid the jewelry through. I looked in the mirror and was incredibly impressed with how it looked. The jewelry was a bit big, but he told me that after a month I could change it. He also said that if my piercing began to heal crooked, all I had to do was twist the piercing in whatever direction I wanted it to grow every once and a while and it should be fine.

The adrenaline rush afterwards was amazing. My nose didn't bleed, or even hurt at all for that matter. I was all smiles the rest of the day. The next day it was fairly sore, but only if I touched it. That went away after a couple days and healed relatively fast. I am still really happy that I got it done and am next thinking of getting a side vertical labret.

Cleaning it was easily done too, it was actually a little fun, im not going to lie. All I had to do was fill up a cup of water and add however much(I don't remember the exact measurements) sea salt and then hold it up to my nose and blow bubbles in the water. I noticed that it seemed to sting a little after every time I cleaned it, but then again, getting salt in a new appendage has pain written all over it. It was okay though. I also got this antiseptic for my nose and all I did was after I had soaked my nose for five minutes, I dipped a q-tip into the antiseptic and wiped away any extra crusties from around my piercing. My nose wasn't tender at all after a couple days, just watch that you don't bump into anything or get punched or someone flicks your nose, because then it gets a little sore again for a couple days.

To anyone who reads on other experiences where the septum piercing hurt like hell, don't let it scare you off, it mostly just depends on the persons nose, how thick their septum is and their pain tolerance. If you want to get your septum pierced but have a low pain tolerance, ask to get the sweet spot of your septum pierced. Thats higher up than the cartilage and i've heard that it's a lot less painful.
