Well, I'm going to start with telling (like everybody else) how much I disliked the septum piercing in the past. I thought people with them looked like bulls. But when time went by and I started to see more people with the septum piercing (mostly on bmezine) I started to like them.. a little.
At A Glance Author majikan Contact majikan@bme.anon When A month ago Studio passion for piercing Location groningen I gained a few piercings the past half year because I wanted to do more with my love for body modification. I've got a vertical labret, a vertical clithood piercing and started stretching my lobes.
After a few months of thinking about a septum piercing, I decided I liked it (yeah that's it). I told about my plans to various people and most of them reacted repulsed about it. So in my eyes that's a good thing. After reading numerous experiences, watching a lot of photo's of the septum piercing on bmezine and walking around with a cbr clipped on my septum, I decided I wanted to do it. But I didn't like the look of a bcr or cbr in a septum piercing. So I went to my piercer and asked about the possibilities to pierce it with a barbell or a retainer. And it was all possible.... I went home to think about it for one night. The next morning I woke up: sick, got a real bad cold, as you all ready guessed: not the state you want to get your nose pierced...
Yesterday I decided to get this piercing. My cold was over and my nose was pretty clean haha. I went to my piercer who also did my other piercings, the only piercer I would ever trust. I asked, he answered. I decided I want to think about it while sitting there and he offered me a cup of coffee. I wanted to see some pictures of septum piercings, the girl who works there too (I can't remember her name, stupid me) came down and we talked for a while. During this time three (!) people came in to get their tongue pierced. On Saturdays the shop is closed at five o'clock and it was a quarter to five when I decided to go trough with it.
He prepared the piercing supplies and told me to come in. After that he bent a 14g retainer from niobium because I only wanted to pierce it with a retainer. The retainers he has in stock were to small, because of the possible swelling of the piercing. First he cleaned my nose with this horrible smelling goo which burned on my nose. To get the piercing as straight as possible he drew a line on my nose and showed it to me to be sure it was straight. He cleaned his gloves and poked around in my nose to find the right spot, I thought it was very funny because it isn't common to have somebody feeling in your nose like that. After that he took the septum clamp out of it's sterile package and put it on the right spot. I read in lots of experiences that the septum clamp hurts but it wasn't the case with me! He didn't pinch the clamp to much so it didn't hurt, the only thing was the clamp smelled of alcohol and had some effect on my eyes so tears came up. After that he lined the needle up and slowly pushed it trough. There was only a little amount of pain, it was more of a strange feeling, like I never felt before. I opened my eyes and saw the receiving tube sticking out of my nose. And the tears came, like the Niagara falls, I must have looked like a big baby! It didn't hurt any more but somehow the sting triggered my tears. He put the jewellery in and it did sting a little bit some more tears came. He bent the retainer some more so it fitted in my nose and flipped it up. I did bleed a little so first he cleaned my blood and tears from my face and waited until the bleed stopped. After that he told me to look in the mirror. I only saw a silver thing stuck in my nose and it was straight, so I guessed it was all right. He told me brief about the after-care and gave me some cleaning solution. I paid him and I was on my way home, all happy, looking like I've cried for hours and with a purple mark on my nose. The minute I got home I flipped down the retainer and looked in the mirror, what I saw there was horror: me, with a huge iron looking thing hanging out of my nose. After adjusting the retainer it looked better and I imagined myself with a smaller retainer, which probably will look a lot better.
The first day and night went well, no pain whatsoever! Cleaning was easy, piece of cake, it bled a little but not to much.
The second day went all right, it stings a little when I pout my lips and when I laugh to hard. In the morning I stuck my nose in a cup of sea salt solution to loosen the dried blood. Which worked. No swelling at all! I showed it to my parents and grandmother. My grandmother thought it was gross, my mother thinks I'm crazy and my father asked me if I was going back to my roots (I'm a Indonesian/Mollucan descendant).
The third day went better, no swelling and no hurting when I do things with my face, not even when I laugh. Tonight I pulled on my retainer in my sleep, maybe because I thought something was stuck in my nose. Cleaning is going well: loosen the crusties with a sea salt solution and the clean the piercing with a q-tip dipped in the cleaning solution.
It's now 3 weeks ago and I changed the jewellery a few times myself. I'm currently wearing a cbr in it for comfort, but most of the times I just wear a straight barbell in it. I have no pain whatsoever and I carry on my strict cleaning regime.
I'm so happy that I decided to go trough with it, off course I want to thank my piercer for the good work he did (again)! If you are thinking about getting this piercing: just get it! All in all this was a good experience without to much discomfort or pain.
