Years ago I always thought septums do look stupid and especially on girls it just looks ridiculous. After browsing the net (mainly wildcat and BME) I saw some girls which nice looking septums, and I put it on my list of my piercing list.

I read tons of reviews and people always told me it hurts a lot - I'm a real sissy when it comes to pain!

2 months ago I had my nipples pierced, which was a huge step forward to me and since then I have been plotting on which piercing to get next.

I wanted to go to Germany to the Wave Gotik Treffen in June, boyfriend and me already have bought tickets and the plane tickets, the hotelroom was booked - and the he fell ill.

I was so disappointed and I thought I need something to get me over this, so I thought: why not use the money you have saved for a new piercing?

Then I booked an appointment with Cold Steel for the evening before I went on my holidays and then the day came: I was very busy at the office, so I didn't have that much time to worry. My workmate kindly reminded me occasionally that I will get another hole in my nose and I was very - VERY - nervous. By the time work ended I was getting calmer. The short tube ride up to Camden was going quick, I got into Cold Steel a few minutes before my appointment, filled in the necessary form and had a look at the jewellery display until she fetched me to go upstairs with her.

The room looked very clean.

I had to sit down on a doctors bench (don't know how they are called). She stuck some medicinal cream up my nose which smelled weird, but not that bad. She always changed her latex gloves too before doing something.

After a few minutes I had to lie down and hold my head off the bench for better access to my nose. She stuck her fingers up my nose and prodded around, told me to breathe in and out - and while I was breathing out she put the needle through. Ok it did hurt, but it was bearable. Putting in the jewellery did hurt more - but still bearable. I opted for a silver retainer as my bosses at work are pretty relaxed about my piercings, but I don't have to push it.

While I was resting on the bench she explained me that I have to soak it in sea salt water (just a tiny little pinch for half a pint) for a few minutes twice a day, then clean it with a cotton bud, then flip it up and down after each cleaning. I had it flipped down first because I was so proud of having it done that I wanted the whole world to show it.

This was the first piercing that didn't hurt a single bit right after getting pierced, no pulsing, nothing! I walked to the tube with a huge grin on my face and full of adrenaline.

I noticed some people looking at me, but then people often look at me because of my clothing, so I can't say if it was the piercing or my usual look.

Occasionally I prodded my nose to see if it hurt, and it did, but only vaguely.

I flipped it up again at home because I was scared of knocking it out and I left it up there since then. Sleeping was fine. The next day my nose did hurt a little bit more, but it was more like as if you have blown your nose too often and your nose is sore from the paper tissues.

I bought some sea salt since I have used up the one I used for my nipple piercings and stuck my nose into the glass with sea salt soak the next day. It's a weird feeling, it actually feels good. Blowing your nose gently into the water works fine too. I cleaned it with a cotton bud, which hurt a little bit. Then I flipped it up and down a few times, and that stung, but not badly. After a few times of holding my nose into the glass I got fed up with it and just put a tissue into the salt soak and stuck it up my nose holes. That actually works better for me now.

Occasionally I have to prod my nose to see if I actually have a piercing up there - it's just weird, you can't see it, you can't feel it.

Blowing your nose is fine, it only hurt a little bit the day after. Sneezing too. I do have the urge to sneeze more often, and my eyes water a little bit too sometimes.

If I would have known how easy and painless (well, compared to others) it is, I would have done it long ago.
