It happened, about a week and a half ago, (May 20, 2006) on my sixteenth birthday. I'd always wanted a nose piercing, and I asked my mom if I could get it done for my birthday, she said yes and I await my birthday the next week. I had consulted many of my friends on the subject of it, and they all said that it would be really cool. So throughout the week, I had to decide if I wanted a screw or the captive bead ring, I eventually settled for a screw on my mother's wishes.

After a long morning of shopping for clothes, we finally went into Big Brain, waited a few minutes and talked to Collin who was at the front counter that day, looked at tattoo designs, watched some people get tattooed, looked at pictures on the wall (where a picture of my brother had been the last time we were there) and then Smitty came up front and we went back to the piercing room to get my nose marked and the like.

My mom had one request, and that was that I could only get it done if I could have a nose screw rather than a captive bead ring. Smitty said that I could and he went to get the screw, they only had the silver with a light blue gem at the time, so that's what I got, (and he had to admire my newly acquired drivers license, that I had gotten just that morning). After he got the screw and more gloves since he was almost out, he sat down in the chair and got out a packet of a clamp and needle. By this time, I was a bit nervous, but not too much. He dipped the end of the needle in a little bit of petroleum jelly and clamped the spot on my nose. While doing this, he is constantly talking to me and I feel just a little sting and pressure and the needle is through. He turns to get the screw really quickly and puts the jewelry in the hollow end of the needle and before I know it, I have a nose piercing! Amazingly, my right eye only watered a little bit, a lot less than most people, I was told. Smitty really makes his clients feel really comfortable while he pierces you. It makes the pain a fading memory rather than a big "OH SHIT" moment in your memory. He told me how to take care of it (even though I already knew).

We talked about some things and then we were off to pick up something we had called to have held at a store across town. This is when I started feeling a throbbing in my forehead, just above my right eyebrow, that soon went away other than a sting and the throbbing, there is no pain at all to a nostril piercing! I had watched another person get their nose pierced about a month before and it really looked like an uncomfortable thing to do but after thinking about it, I decided that I really did want to get it done.

I've taken good care of my piercing, cleaning it twice daily, not touching it a lot, washing my hands if I feel the urge that I have to touch it, and not letting my friends mess with it.

I've had a few times where I accidently bumped it and it actually did hurt then. But now, not even two weeks later, it's almost completely healed!

Around my school there are a lot of students that have nose piercings, but I'm proud to be able to say that I'm probably one of the only who were responsible enough to go to a professional. After all, I had been talking to someone who told me that she'd do it for me, because it tends to hurt less than if you get it done professionally, that I really doubt now, and then also.

This was probably my best birthday present ever, it's amazing how little it actually hurts. I've gotten a lot of good good reactions to it, including my dad which I didn't think he'd go along with it too well. Even my grandparents didn't have a problem with it, even going to a graduation the next day with them, even my English teacher thought that it was really cool. I really like it and I'm sure this will be a piercing that I keep for a long time. I'd say that if you want to get a piercing, a nostril piercing is the best to go with, it can be noticeable if you want it to be, or if not, you can just go with a stud in it, very fun to see out of the corner of your eye, and all over a very neat experience for anyone who likes piercings and wants to further their 'collection' to anything outside of ears and getting into 'real' piercings!
