I have always found certain parts of body modification intriguing, and have finally started my way towards that "eccentric look". I had wanted a piercing other than my ear lobes (three in each) for a long while. I had thought of getting my septum done, staying at a friend's house until it healed enough to flip up, so that my parents wouldn't notice. Then I realized that if they did "notice" they would happily rip it out of my nose. Therefore, I decided to go about it the right way meaning, beg for permission ("but I'll pay for it, I'll research it, I love you, please!"). My Mom was very much opposed to it, yet much to her surprise, my dad was indifferent and said that if I really wanted it done, and didn't think I would regret it, to go for it! So the combination of my dad's permission, and my persistent begging, last Friday (Dec. 23), my Mom begrudgingly agreed to it. So we planned to go the following Monday (yesterday now).

I researched different locations close by to go to, and the Quillian seemed to have the best reviews and a very nice website, so I decided on that. Monday finally came, and I had to work eight hours, which seemed like an eternity due to my extreme level of anticipation for what would come at night. I get off of work, go home, and my Mom (granted) , cousin, and good friend all decided to come along to watch this enthralling procedure. At that point I was so full of adrenaline and anxiety. The place was very clean, and had a nice atmosphere. My Mom and I filled out the forms and I asked the one guy working there (who had a ring in his nostril) if it hurt a lot. He said that it did, but was well worth it.
So I'm shaking like a freak and just wanted it to be done already. I picked a silver stud with a pink stone in it and went into a room with a chair similar to that of a dentist's. The artist doing it for me told me how to care for it afterwards, washed his hands and put gloves on. He clearly took all the tools out of a sterilized package, and changed his gloves numerous times through out. He talked me through the entire procedure, and my Mom kept repeating, "If you don't want this done, you can stop now!" (My family all thinks I'm crazy). I actually think my Mom was more nervous than I was. He put the receiving tube into my nostril after we decided on the perfect spot. I breathed in through my nose and out hard through my mouth as I was told and sounded like I was having convulsions. Finally the needle penetrated, and I barely felt it! Just the slightest prick and I asked if it was done, and he said yes much to my surprise. I had my eyes shut, but could still feel the needle laying across my face with a cork on the end as he went to get the stud ready to thread through. He put that in, which didn't hurt at all either. I looked in the mirror and despite the ring of blood, and blood dripping from my nostril, was in love with it! Once leaving the room, the two women who were waiting there to get a tattoo looked at me and asked if it had hurt. I told them that I barely felt a thing, and they both joked around about coming next week to have it done too in that case. Then I paid ($50) thanked the artist for the great job he did and danced all the way to my car.
Now it's the morning after I had this done, and it doesn't bother me at all. It was slightly achy when I washed it this morning, but otherwise feels fine. The only thing I feel is the wire from the end of the stud resting up against the inside of my nose. The ring of blood around the outside is gone, and I have even managed to blow my nose this morning (eww gross) without it hurting. Maybe I just have a high pain tolerance compared to others, who knows. All I know is that I'm very happy with my decision and cannot wait to show it off (despite the wrath of my grandparents, whom I will see tonight...eek!). So, if you are in the Allentown area, and are looking for a really nice tattoo and piercing parlor, I highly recommend the Quillian. Next year I hope to get some cartilage in my ear pierced, and maybe the bridge of my nose or right side of my lip. Piercing is such an adrenaline rush!
