I will start at the beginning : since I was thirteen years old and one of my friends got her ears double pierced, I've been in love with piercing. My parents were decidedly anti-piercing, so being the silly teen that I was, I went ahead and pierced my ears myself. Since I turned eighteen and started going to college, I decided that I could get all the piercings I wanted, since my parents were not there to say anything about it. Since then I've had my eyebrow, my nostril, and my navel done. I have a list of awesome piercing that I'd like to get before I graduate from college, and when I heard that Big Brain was having a twenty dollar piercing sale, I decided I would go and get something done. I was talking to my boyfriend (who also has an awesome septum piercing) and decided that that would be the right one for me. I wanted to get a really cute little one; since my boyfriend's is rather large. It looks good on a boy, but it was not really the thing for me. So I decided that I wanted a six teen gauge, with really small balls.
At A Glance Author kittiann Contact kittiann@bme.anon When A month ago Artist Smitty Studio Big Brain Productions Location Omaha, NE We headed over to the studio, and I was getting pretty nervous. I had heard from lots of people that the septum was one of the most painful piercings you could get; and even though I have an incredibly high pain tolerance, I always get rather nervous when going to get some work done. So I quizzed my boyfriend over and over about his septum experience, but he was not really helping; he was talking about how much it hurt. He was taking me to the studio so he could a double labret piercing done, and it made him feel better to scare me : ).
So we got to Big Brain, and we made sure that the twenty dollar sale was still going on. The studio made a really awesome impression on me. It was very clean, everyone had fresh gloves on, and they had an autoclave for cleaning the jewelry. It looked really professional, too. There were computers along the wall designed for designing your tattoos, a nice plus when I go in to get my ink done. There were also lots of news stories framed on the wall, about Smitty's work promoting safe piercing in the community. After a little bit of time, Smitty came out and asked us what we were going to have pierced. I told him I was getting my septum done, and he told me that he had done a lot of septums the past few days, and that was pretty unusual. I was still really nervous, but Smitty's chatter was helping me feel a lot better.
While we were still talking about the piercings, Smitty's wife and daughter came in. He was going to pierce her ears before they went to a dinner together. It was really funny, seeing this adorable baby girl in a piercing and tattoo parlor watching her daddy put needles through people's faces!
I had my boyfriend go first (ever since a bad haircut experience, I hate going first when doing drastic things!) He chatted with Smitty about websites and stuff, and was really impressed with the work done. I was less nervous after seeing his experience go so well.
When I got in the chair, the nervousness came back again. I held my boyfriends hand, and he got kind of worried because I was gripping it so tight; so he told me to relax and just let go. While he was comforting me, Smitty had put the clamps on my nose. He explained to me that, because of the clamps, the piercing could not be crooked; and it would sit straight by the time it was healed, even if it looked crooked initially. So while I was talking to my boyfriend (he was distracting me quite well) Smitty just slid the needle through. I barely even noticed it at all. When the jewelry went through, my eyes started to water, but otherwise I was just fine.
My boyfriend and I drove home, and he was really upset because his piercings were hurting really bad; but I was still doing fine : ). The only thing that was painful was flipping it up to hide it from my dad.. That was pretty painful. It's been about a month now, and I've had no problems at all. Once I got back to college I flipped it back down. I've followed his aftercare religiously (sea salt soaks daily) and nothing's gone wrong. It looked kind of crooked at first, but it doesn't look like it at all now. So my septum experience was really awesome, and I'd suggest it to anyone! A lot less painful then my nostril.
