For a few weeks now I had been contemplated getting a new piercing, what to get had me stumped, I wanted something different that I personally hadn't seen very often. Everyone seemed to suggest the usual labret, lip etc but I wanted something that was a little bit more unique. I tagged along when my girlfriend went to get her lip done at the usual place and our piercer, Tim was sporting a pair of ten gauge tunnels in either side of his nose, the second I saw it I knew that was what I was getting next, but in a smaller gauge. It was perfect, it was different, I hadn't seen any one with both sides of their nose pierced besides Tim, and typically all I ever saw was every second girl with a shinny gem in the side of her nose, for me only getting one side was just being the same as every second person but two now that was unique. A few days had passed and I had convinced the girlfriend and mother that both sides was a good idea, didn't need permission but not getting in their bad books is always a good thing, wasn't too hard seeing as my mum had gotten her nostril done a few weeks prior and my girlfriend has more piercings than me.

With that obstacle over it was time to get it done, what better time than a sunny Saturday afternoon so me and my girlfriend went down to the studio to make a booking but he was with a customer and told to come back in half and hour, so we decided to leave and walk around for a while. Half and hour later we returned to the studio and I had that nervous but exited feeling in my stomach, we went in and talked to Tim about it, no problems then filled out the survey/ paperwork thing and went into the private room. By this time the nerves were settling the room always put me at ease, he started setting up and asked me to pick what style of Jewelry I wanted from the display, and this is where a problem occurred.

I knew what I wanted, a plain disk but with a larger diameter, but when I was looking for one all I saw was the standard sized disks, I asked Tim if he had any but he informed me that he usually didn't carry that style and he would have to order a pair in. Tim told me the earliest he could get them in was going to be Tuesday. Totally bummed out I decided to make an appointment for another day, because I wasn't going to wear Jewelry that I wasn't going to like and arranged to come in the following Saturday as Studies made it difficult to go during the week. The week slowly passed and I couldn't wait until Saturday, which finally came around though it seemed like the longest week ever.

Again me and my girlfriend traveled to the studio and waited while he finished with the client before me, not long after he was finished and asked us to come back into the piercing room. Again I had to fill out the typical survey/ consent form while he set up his area, wasn't really nervous this time for some reason and for some reason was under the impression that this piercing was not going to hurt at all, this was a bad impression to be under. He had finished setting up and did the usual rewash of hands, change of gloves and he was ready to begin. First off he cleaned the outside and inside of my nose, cleaning the inside wasn't really pleasant. Next he marked one side of my nostril and asked me if I liked it, checked the mirror but it seemed too low for my liking so he marked it again, this time it was perfect. After he had marked the first side he began the tedious task of making the other symmetrical, this took a while as I had previously broken my nose and one nostril seemed to flare out more than usual. After the marks were symmetrical we were ready to pierce, he asked me if I want to have both sides pierced then the Jewelry passed through or take it one side at a time, decided to have each side done at a time, don't know why.

He began piercing the right side of my nose, I tend to close my eyes during piercings because staring at the piercer feels weird for me, I felt the needle pushing through the tissue of my nostril, it felt like a very sharp hot feeling and was more painful than I had expected, Tim removed the needle and began feeding the receiving tube through my nostril. This part caused me a decent amount of discomfort and pain for some reason and my eyes were watering and my nose was running uncontrollably, but finally I was wearing a shinny new disk on my nose and it was time for the other. At this stage I wasn't really enthused about having the other side done, not because of the pain but rather the discomfort of it all. After a minute I was ready for the left nostril to be done, again I closed my eyes and started to feel the exact same sharp hot feeling passing through my nostril and Tim began to feed the receiving tube through my nose. Strangely my left side didn't cause me any discomfort compared to my right besides the usual nose and eyes running, it was finished I was now wearing two new shinny disks on either side of my nose. After it was finished Tim commented that I had really soft cartridge on my left side compared with the right, guess that's why it was more painful, I paid him and he gave me the usual after care speech and told me to come back if I had any problems or question.

I love my new double nostril piercing and have had no problems in the after care process, except the usual tenderness and once the Jewelry twisted while I was asleep which caused me a bit of discomfort, but its sorted now. The confused reaction people have when they realize that I have both sides done is still priceless and the reaction I've received so far from friends and family has been nothing but positive. I highly recommend getting a double nostril piercing to anyone who is thinking of getting a nostril piercing.
