After many piercings and tattoos there was always one piercing I had wanted but didn't have the balls for, my septum. After reading some of the experiences on BME and talking to pierced friends I had gotten the idea that it would be very painful. How wrong I was.

After visiting London for a concert, seeing as I live in Bristol it was a long trip, my friend Emma got her septum pierced. I was so jealous. We went to the gig and the next day I decided the next time I was back in London I'd visit cold steel and get the piercing done.

Well that time came around much sooner than I anticipated. Infact it was only 5 days after seeing Emma and Alkaline Trio I was back in London visiting a friend. After an early start and an hour and three quarter train ride I was back in London.

When we got to Camden there had been a power cut so the shop was closed. Spent a few hours wandering round Camden, bought some shoes and a shirt, then went to oxford street and had lunch in a pub. Unfortunately I couldn't drink so I was drinking coke, even had a Kaliber alcohol free beer, how risky haha!

After a very wet walk down to the tube station the nerves started to set in. I decided I'd have to get a drink and something to eat, so away to a newsagent I went. Mars bar and a coke as ordered. I felt a little better after that but was still quite nervous. Got there and signed the release form and had my ID checked. Once that was all in order I paid the £25 for the piercing with a black retainer and wandered nervously around the waiting room.

After what seemed like hours but was probably only 5 or 7 minutes I was ready. We walked up the stairs to the piercing room and I sat on the table. After we talked about the procedure a bit I told the lady that did the piercing about my concerns about where the piercing was, the pain factor and healing it. She went into great detail to reassure me that it was a pretty much painless piercing and that if cared for properly then it would not be a problem.

I was worried that with my job involving long hours that I wouldn't have the time to clean it out properly each day and that could lead to an infection in the cartilage which could cause some damage to my nose. She was well informed about the procedure and put my worries at bay. I also found out she had worked in a local studio in Bristol, Pierced Up, briefly. I found this small talk was good for me as it took my mind of somebody touching my nose, which I hate!!

Well after talking then it was time for the piercing. I laid down on the table and hung my head over the side so she could see up my nose! This was the most uncomfortable part of the procedure as I get mad head rushes and I hate people touching my nose. She poked and prodded around my nose a bit and found what she called the sweet spot. Then she cleaned my nose with some nasty smelling disinfectant and dried it out so it was ready for the piercing.

I saw her open up the needle and clamps from the sterile pack and closed my eyes! Everything she did was explained to me as I didn't want to watch her get ready to shove a needle through me! When she said she was putting a bit of lubricant on the needle I knew it was seconds til I found out if it hurts as much as I heard. Well she put the receiving tube on the other side of my nose and told me to start taking deep breaths. After taking in and letting out around 5 she said take one final deep breath and let it out slowly.

As I exhaled the needle was pushed through. And it was nothing like I had thought. It stung like a pinch but was nothing more. All these people who say it hurts, it bleeds, it's horrible, you really need to sort it out. It was nothing like I had expected. The needle used had a hollow end, not a canula so the needle was corked and the retainer followed through my nice new hole in my septum. She had me lay there for a minute or two and then got me to sit up and look at my new hole.

I loved it!! It's seriously the best piercing I've had done. It's been 2 days now and its still aching a little, and if I touch my nose it hurts but other than that it's fine. I love it and will be stretching it to around 5mm once it's healed.
