Only lately have I fallen in love with septum piercings, after I saw this gorgeous girl with one at my best friend's 20th birthday party.

After that I would walk around the house with a fake ring in my nose to see how it would suit me, and received various comments from my parents and sister that it was a "disgusting thing to have pierced" and "why would I like to look like a bull?" and that it would "ruin my pretty face". Even my best friend who loves her piercings too try to dissuade me from getting it done.

Well as per usual I never listen to what other people have to say, if I get a hard on for a piercing and want it done, nothing can put me off!!!

I'd recently had both my nipples done, which pushed me up to a total of 20 piercings and my 21st birthday was coming up, so I thought what wasn't a more fitting present to myself than my 21st piercing for my 21st birthday?

My birthday drew closer and I planned to go up to Bath where I am at university to collect my house keys for my student house. I usually go to Patrick at Pierced Up in Bristol for my piercings, because they are just fantastic there, so I could swing by Bristol whilst in that part of the country and get my septum pierced! My plan to get my 21st on my 21st was coming together nicely!

So after a heavy weekend of birthday celebrations, I dragged my tired and hungover ass up to Bristol by train. On the way my good friend Laura text me to say that Pierced Up wasn't open on Mondays. I could have cried. I was so determined to get it done on my 21st that when I got to Bristol and met up with Laura we went on a trek to find somewhere with a piercer on duty.

After trying Holey Skin we found a place In Kingswood that was open, but they didn't have any jewellery for a septum piercing and they wouldn't use the septum keeper I had bought, so I would have to wait until their delivery at 4.30pm.

So we went and had lunch and chilled at Laura's house until 4.30pm then headed back to the studio. When we got there we had to wait for the jewellery to be autoclaved, which took about 20 minutes. I chose a 10mm 14ga circular barbell with 4mm balls, so that I could easily flip it up to hide it, as I had to be back at work on Wednesday and they wouldn't take kindly to me wearing such an "aggressive" piercing to work. I mean they already made me take out my lip stud whilst working, even though it was barely noticeable!

When the jewellery was ready I was called into the piercing room, which I have to say put me on edge a bit. I was used to going to Pierced Up where the standards of hygiene are impeccable, but this place was rather worrying in comparison. But I was determined to get it done on my 21st birthday and couldn't possibly wait a whole 20 hours for Pierced Up, so I just grinned and took it.

I didn't catch the Piercer lady's name, but she told me to just lay down on the bed, so I did. Then she donned a pair of gloves and cleaned my nose with this stuff that not only smelled horrible, but stung like a bitch too.

Then she simply pinched my nose and lined up the needle and I closed my eyes as she pushed it through. My eyes watered like crazy and it was to date the most painful piercing I have experienced (before was my rook, which was a tough one!). What I found rather amusing is that whilst I was laying on the table being pierced I heard my phone alarm go off at 5.35pm marking the time at which I was born 21 years ago exactly!

Now before I ever get anything pierced, I do my research Usually as BME as my main resource, and I was expecting clamps, marking up etc, but no she just shoved the needle through with barely any attention spent to getting it lined up etc! That freaked me out a bit and when I sat up and cleared my eyes of tears (not from crying, but just from where they had watered so much!) I expected it to be wonky! But (and I count myself lucky) it was straight and looked amazing! Then it bled everywhere and I was sat with a tissue under my nose for 20 minutes whilst Laura got her nipple pierced.

I got home and cleaned it up nice and changed the 4mm balls for some 3mm ones I had, so I could flip it up.

I've had it for 3 days now and it doesn't hurt, it's not sore and I barely even notice it's there. I have been mainly wearing it flipped up because of work and my parents. I told my Mum, but my Dad still doesn't know about it. Even though I am 21 they still have a lot to say about my body modification and whilst I am home for the summer I don't want to rub it in their faces!
