Piercings are so very addictive, at the beginning of the year I only had two lobe piercings and now I have had twelve piercings, seven ear piercings, 3 lobe piercings in each year a cartilage piercings but it had to be removed, my rook, nose, two naval piercings and now my septum. I just keep wanting more and more done, but it's hard to have everything you want done when your parents threaten to throw you out of the house for having them and your work have a strict no facial piercings apart from nose studs policy so when your parents turn round and tell you after two years of asking, that you can get your tongue pierced then the day before your due to get it done they tell you no, imagine how frustrating that is!

So me being me I needed to get a new piercing and decided that my septum was the one for me. Looking at it before, I didn't think it was something I would ever get done because its such an obvious piercing that many people are against, but after seeing a friend of a friend with a tiny little retainer I thought it was so cute and didn't even notice it until she flipped it down.

I asked a few of my friends what they thought of it and all I got was "No don't do it", "you'll look like a bull", and "yuck that's horrible" apart from about two people who said "yeah its cool go for it". But not really caring about the negative things people were saying I decided to still look into it. So after looking through lots of pictures on BME and reading a lot of experiences I decided to go for it.

So pay day came along and I headed down to my usual piercing studio Retro Rebels in Aberdeen. I went in and said I wanted my septum done but with a retainer so it was easy to hide from parents and work, so my piercer went and checked to see if they had any in, and luckily they did. I went downstairs where he talked me through the procedure.

My nose was cleaned with some cleaning stuff. It is really weird having someone putting their fingers up your nose and rubbing some cleaning stuff up there, but the things we go through for a piercing. Marks were then placed on my nose to see where it would go, Daryll (spelling), my piercer was not happy with the placement so did it again, he then warned me that the clamp was going to hurt the most and no he wasn't wrong. It hurt. It also did make my eyes water a bit, then for the actual piercing. This honestly wasn't that bad, was over with really quickly but then the jewellery still had to go in, this was a little uncomfortable but not too bad, he put the retainer in and flipped it up so it was hidden. I was shown it in the mirror and couldn't see anything, which was really good. My rook piercing hurt a lot more than this one did, A LOT more. I thanked him and paid my money and left.

When I got home I cleaned it with salt water for the first time which stung a little, I took it down to see what it looked like whilst I cleaned it, it was so cute and little. When looking in the mirror with it hidden I could see it in my nose which was making me worry about it incase my parents would see it, but when I asked my friends they said the only way you could see it would be to look for it, so that was fine then. I went out that night and told a few of my friends about my new piercing, some of the looks I got were so funny and still got the few "why would you do that?" comments. A few people said it looked really good and meant it whilst I had the people who did the "oh its em nice" thing I'd rather people just said what they think. It really doesn't bother me if no one likes it because I do and that's all that matters.

Thinking about it now even if I was allowed to get my tongue done by my parents I probably still would have got my septum done, I really like it already and when it's hidden I don't even notice that its there, although last night after I had just had it done it felt like I had been punched in the face for a bit.

If anyone is thinking of getting their septum pierced I would say go for it, the piercing itself is basically painless, it is really easily hidden, and is so cute.
