I had wanted my septum pierced for quite some time. I never got around to it until the other day. I have had previous piercings, done at another studio so those are almost irrelevant. I had made plans with a friend of mine to drive down to Little Five Points in Atlanta one day so we could visit Kolo and both get our septums pierced. I had never heard anything bad about Kolo so I figured what the hell. I called the day we wanted to go, but the lady who does them at 14+ was on vacation. My cousin called me about an hour later and asked if I wanted to join him for a ride down there, I of course agreed.

I walked around for a bit and finally got the balls to go to Kolo. I walked in talked to the guy at the counter, and I chose a 16 gauge retainer. I was told the wait would be about 45 minutes. I got to talk to some really nice people in the lobby. A lady was getting her septum jewelry changed and her sixteen year old daughter was getting her navel pierced. I think I ended up waiting about an hour and a half.
Ben called me into the back room. I sat down on the largest table thing I have ever seen. He swabbed my nose with soap that smelled like a doctor's office. Changed his gloves. Then he had me lay down with my head over the edge so he could see straight down my nose, stuck his fingers in there and squeezed around a bit. During this I was wondering if I had any boogers he could see, or if he would end up with boogers on his fingers. Then he changed his gloves again. He marked it with gentian violet and a toothpick. I was a bit disappointed because he didn't let me see where he was going to be placing the jewelry, it is where I wanted it and all, I just would have liked to have a bit more of a say. He changed his gloves again, this time to the sterile pair he had on the rolling table. He had me breathe for a few minutes and then he sat down over me again, still telling me to breath.
He held the needle and the receiving tube in my nose for a good 30 seconds making sure it would be straight. Then, there was so much pressure. I think I took three or four breaths before the need had gone all the way through. Can we say oww!!! I guess I was just used to the quick push and it's over method. I made a goofy noise, kind of an "aahhaa" and he mocked me, which made me giggle. He then corked the needle and went to get the jewelry out of the autoclave, so I laid there with a two inch needle chillin' in my nose for a few minutes. I found this somewhat odd. The other shop I went to always had the jewelry in the room already. He put the retainer in and had me sit up to look at it. I had tears streaming down my face from the sensitivity in the nose. I don't think my eyes have ever watered that much. He then had me lay back down so he could push the retainer up into my nose. I was kind of surprised that I didn't see any blood with one, but that's ok with me.
He told me the aftercare instructions, I also got a sheet. And I was sent to the lobby to sign the sterilization strip. Then I was off on my way! I walked around Little 5 for a few minutes waiting on my cousin to get there. I ended up sitting down so I could pull out a mirror and stare at it. I'm sure I looked like a goofball, but it's all good.
I really like it so far. If I move the tip of my nose, like scrunch it or anything sometimes the jewelry will shift and a small crusty will get into the hole and that hurts like hell, or if I roll over on my face when I wake my nose is pretty sore. Other than that it's great. All my friends like to stare up my nose to see it, or attempt to see it. It's going to be great when it's healed and I can change the jewelry! I can't really q-tip the crusties without moving the jewelry so I'm sticking to salt soaks for a few weeks until I won't be hurting myself in the cleaning process.
