Ahh, the long awaited septum piercing. I had been waiting almost a year to get this piercing done, many of times I had the money, time and transportation to get it done, but just never seemed "up" for it. Then the day ( July 19 / 2005 ) came . . .

He has his ears stretched to 2 inches, septum and tongue done as well. I only had my labret ( stretched to 4g ) inner conch and an industrial in my left ear. I told him that I had been thinking hard about my septum and he encouraged me to get it. That day even we took a stroll up to a guy ( Frank ) who pierces out of a beauty salon to see what his prices were and how he did the procedure ( septum clamps, captive bead / cbb etc . . . ) and to see if he would cut us a deal because my buddy wanted to get his labret done too, unfortunately the place was closed so I jotted down the number only to call the next day to find out he did not work there anymore. So onto the next step, finding a good piercing studio around here.
My first two piercings had originally been done at Longhorn Tattoo's ( Oshawa ) and they were both excellent experiences except for my inner conch, the girl who, at the time had never pierced me yet screwed up by putting on a cbr too small to compensate the swelling, which caused a bit of my ear to tear, so I wasn't up to putting my septum into her hands. Now with every studio these days you hear the good and you hear the bad. But I decided to call Wild Ink, located here in Oshawa, Ontario ( the also have a location in Bowmanville ). I found out that he used clamps and that he could pierce with a retainer, so I asked my buddy if he would drive me up there, he said "No problem". He drove down to my house, picked me up and we were on our way.
When we got to the studio there were a few of those little belly button and tongue piercing girls hanging around, but they cleared rapidly. I told the guy that I had called wanting to get my septum done and I asked him a few questions and next thing I know I'm laying down on the bed in one of the booths. He marked me up, I got my buddy to make sure it looked nice and straight ( his was pierced, along with many others, crooked ) he gave the thumbs up and it was time to go. Through all the experiences that I have read here on BME the septum seemed likely to be one of the most painful. The piercer then clamped me down and got the needle ready, and said "Alright bro, on the count of three take a big deep breath, 1 . . . 2 . . . . . 3!" I felt the needle insert from one side and that was it. The second I felt the needle going through my nose, I knew he had hit the "sweet spot", it felt like sticking a needle through a block of butter, so easily. No pain, my eyes did water up for about 30 seconds, he took the needle out the other side and slid my new septum retainer into place.
I sat up, checked it out, it was perfect! Straight and centered, not crooked at all ( which was my number one concern ) . Then it's was my buddy's turn, he chose to get his labret done, which is pretty awesome considering we both walked in there with the opposite piercings and came out with the same ones, ha ha. Overall, my experience was way above average, excellent even, despite what things I may have heard about Wild Ink in the past. It's been only one day now, and the only pain I can feel is if I put pressure on the tip of my nose. It's also very easy to clean, the usual sea-salt soaks and Q-tips. All in all, if you're thinking about getting your septum done, make sure it's what you want ( read up on it as much as you can, you know, read every experience you can here on BME ) and make sure you can go to a studio with a good rep. And anybody in the Durham Region, go to Wild Ink for your septum's, the guy knows what he's doing, he's done his handful, or noseful shall I say!
Take it easy,
