So, I'd been wanting my septum pierced for ages, and was really pissed off when finding out that no piercing place within half an hours drive would do it. The local one said it was too dangerous, and the piercer in town wouldn't do it for the same reason.
At A Glance Author shootmeagain Contact chikababee@hotmail.com When It just happened Artist Tony, i think Studio Body Jewelz Location Bunbury, Western Australia I'd wanted a piercing though, so I'd got my nipple pierced in town, and then went to see if one of my mum's friends would do my septum. She was a piercer, except I wasn't sure where she was based anymore as I understand she had a bit of an argument with the people working in the hairdresser's her studio was based in.
I went into the hairdresser's anyway, to be told shed been 'relocated', or something like that.
Noticed a stack of purple cards on the bench though, 'Body Jewelz'. I'd never heard of them, interested. I went to the address on the card, and was told that the they had just got in a very experienced piercer, and would be opening next weekend. Wicked! I was asking if they did septum piercings, and for the first time, they didn't ask me what a septum was and said yes, so I was stoked. They ordered a septum retainer for me, and I told them I'd probably get it done in two weeks time, on July 2nd.
I was working all next weekend, and couldn't wait. I hadn't told very many people I was getting it done, as I live in quite a small town, and don't actually know anyone who has it done. I was expecting a bit of teasing and/or mocking, being called a bull et cetera, not really caring at this point.
I knew it'd look awesome.
As it turned out though, the Thursday before I'd planned I was going into town with a mate to get her nipple done, and so rearranged everything, got my cash ready and the such like.
We went into town, hung out with her mum for a while, me the whole time revving myself up for this as I always get butterflies in my stomach before I get it done. Her mum finally left, me and Jodie went and got something to eat and got our money out.
We get to the shop, and I asked the chick if my septum retainer had got there yet. She said no, unfortunately, and I'd probably have to wait until the next Tuesday. Well that just wasn't on, and since she suggested getting it pierced with a 14g CBR that they could bend to the right shape, I decided to do that.
This guy comes out, around 55 I guess. I remembered him from the piercing place in town that'd just closed, he was nice enough. A lot of experience, I knew, had talked to him a few times. He asked me what I was getting done, I told him my septum, and he grabbed my head and turned it so he could look up my nose... kind of weird. I guess you get that though. He asked me if I was over 18, and I said yes. Didn't ask for id. Then we went into his area and he was showing me the jewelry he was going to use, debating what size ring to do it with, as I'd told him that I was going to have to flip it up for work. He said it'd be 10 minutes in the autoclave, and so me and Jodie went outside for a smoke. Trying to calm my nerves, I guess. He came out and lit up as well, started talking about which piercings hurt most. Nipples, apparently, but I don't agree. Haven't had one yet that has *really* hurt that much. I'm probably not a good judge for other people I guess... high pain threshold.
So, finished our smokes and went in. Jodie kept telling me I was stupid, she'd decided she wasn't getting her nipple done but I knew I could convince her. I went in and sat down, facing him. Bit of a wait, as he got all the equipment ready. He had the actual septum clamps (tube on both sides), so it was reassuring that he had the right stuff. He was teaching this chick how to do it at the same time, so the whole thing was a bit drawn out. He showed her how to find the sweet spot, the thinnest part of skin between the septum and septum bone, but putting an elastic band around the handle of the clamps and putting it in my nose, then jiggling it until the two sides were almost touching. He left them hanging there while he opened the needle and jewelry. I was sitting there, he was lining up the needle and talking to himself...
"She knows about the 1 2 3 trick, so we wont use that", pushing the needle through on the last word, with no warning.
Scary shit!
Then he says to me, "We're just putting the jewelry in now" and I feel a slight tugging in my nose.
Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, did make my eyes water but that was about it. And the usual pain that comes with a piercing, I think it was slightly more painful than my nipple, definitely less than my tongue. After he put the ring in he got his ring opening things and stretched it a bit more, so it'd flip up easier. He briefed me on how to flip it up, aftercare and the suchlike. With the bizarre instruction not to use cotton buds or cotton balls.
I wore it flipped down to school the next day, got a lot of interesting responses, only about 4 people really didn't like it, the rest thought it was cool. It's not as big or obtrusive as I'd suspected, and looks really nice. It's really easy to hide from my mum, the aftercare's pretty easy and it only really hurts when I'm flipping it up without the aid of a mirror or trying to twist the ring so it sits straight. I love it, definitely my favorite piercing. Highly recommend it, but don't go to a shoddy piercer.
I think I'm going to get my nape pierced next.
