I had wanted my septum pierced for a very long time and finally one morning I woke up and decided that "today is the day". So I called a friend to accompany me.

At first we went and had coffee and I was beginning to get that feeling I always get before I get a piercing. Nauseous, sweaty hands, heart beating faster, exhilarated. I didn't think about it twice. I went in the shop and I told the Mr. what I wanted.

Of course I really had to go to the bathroom, so I did that first. Then I walked into that cold room and sat sideways on the big white chair. The Mr. sat across from me, and I thought he was going to pierce me, but it was the Miss that a year ago watched me get my surface with my other piercer, that was going to pierce me. She was new at this, and I was a lab rat.

While she got her stuff ready I sat and nervously looked around the room, and looked at my friend who was probably more nervous than I was. She clamped my nose and told me to hold my breath and I did. As the needle went through she told me to let it out, but I was so impacted I just held my breath.

My eyes got watery, and of course, my nose was bleeding. I could see the needle through my nose when I looked down, and I could see it was crooked. She had to pierce me again.

I almost thought twice about it, the pain was so sharp, not dull like other piercings.

The second time she pierced my nose it happened again, I held my breath. I was calm after it was over. Then she put the jewelry in and pushed it inside my nose to hide it. My parents would not enjoy my new piercing. I was happy and I tipped her. I walked out of the door and into my friend's car.

My friend was so excited. I looked in the mirror and I noticed she had nicked the side of my nostril, and I also noticed that the jewelry was very visible. At first I thought the reason was because it was big, but soon I learned she had pierced it too low and very close to the outside of my nose.

Now I was really nervous. My parents were going to see it. I got home and begged my friend to keep me company for a few hours until I was calm. I looked in the mirror a million times trying to find a way to hide it. My sister came in my room and noticed it instantly. I didn't know what to do.

My birthday was the next day, and I was going to eat with my parents. I chose a restaurant in a mall. Before I left the house I tried switching the jewelry with a black retainer thinking it would be less obvious, but when I tried to push in, it was too long for my low septum. I cried because I was so disappointed and scared.

When I got in the car to leave with my parents I wore my sunglasses very low so they would squish my nostrils and kind of hide it a little bit. When we got to the restaurant we had to wait so I told my parents I was going to take a walk around the mall. So I shopped a little to calm my nerves because I had to tell them what I had done before they saw it. They were not going to approve at all.

I thought of how to say it and I had it all planned out and finally I decided I was too chicken to tell them face to face so I called my dad from my cell phone. Nothing came out the way I planned. My dad was upset but he was grateful that I was honest with him. When I joined them at the table he seemed calm and was talking to me like he was happy. My mom, on the other hand, was not speaking to me. It went on for about a week.

With the days I started noticing my nose was peeling around the area of the piercing. It got really ugly. At first I thought it was a keloid because it was a red-ish color and picked at it to make sure it wasn't a keloid. It would start bleeding profusely and I didn't know what to do. I had a scab for many days and I was so embarrassed but I refused to take it out.

It finally healed and I still have no idea what cause that. I thought it was probably the way my body handled the foreign object. I don't really like the position of the piercing and I would like to get it re-done, I just need to find a new place to go. I went to a different shop but they told me they didn't have the equipment. The first spot she pierced it on was perfect, the problem was the alignment. Although my nose looks fine, if I touch the area on the outside where the ring is, it hurts really badly. I hope I don't have the same trouble when I get it re-done.
