My surprisingly painless septum experience.

I moved a few months ago so now I live near a lot of different piercing/tattoo studios. I chose the septum because I just like nose piercings. They're right there on your face for everyone to see. I plan to get my left nostril done sometime in the future.
I got my septum pierced a few days ago as a sort of wedding present. I got married and my husband and I got a lot of money as gifts so I thought it would be a perfect time to do it. I decided to get it done the day after our wedding. I didn't think it was actually gonna happen. For some reason I thought something would get in my way but nothing did. It was done at Lucky's of Northampton by Penelope.
It was a Sunday, June 12, 2005. I woke up and got ready to go out. My husband and I went to a friends house then had breakfast. It was really hot that day. We went downtown then walked to the studio.
I was a little nervous but not too much, mostly excited. The only other piercings I have are ear lobes and my right nostril, which i did myself. It was twelve o'clock in the afternoon. My husband and I went in but she was not there yet so we had to walk around town for about forty minutes until it was time.
We went in and I filled out the form and showed my I.D. I picked out my jewelry, a 14 gauge hoop with ball and paid. She gave me a choice of a hoop, a retainer, or a barbell, and various gauges but I liked the 14 gauge hoop. The jewelry was 20 dollars and so was the piercing. It was less then I thought it would be so I was glad. I was then handed an aftercare sheet and sea salt.
I had to wait a few minutes then she led me and my husband to the piercing room and closed the door. I sat down and she sat down in front of me. My husband stood off to the side and watched. She asked if I smoked and I said no and proceeded to explain the aftercare to me. She asked if I had any questions but I didn't. I was so anxious to get it over with.
I held tight to the sides of the chair because I thought it would hurt a lot, that's what most people say. She cleaned my nose then marked it. Then clamped it with the forceps, which didn't really phase me, took the needle and told me to take a deep breath in then to let out when the needle went through. The needle went through and I breathed out. To my surprise it only stung a little bit for a couple seconds. I didn't feel any pain after that. My eyes didn't even water. She put the hoop through then clamped it on the ball. She cleaned out some blood then I was done. I looked in the mirror and I was happy. She asked if I liked it and of course I said yes. Then she asked if I felt okay and I did. She said I could go, so My husband and I walked out and we showed some friends. The whole thing took about five minutes and was pretty painless.
She was very nice about the whole thing and made me feel very comfortable. I would definitely recommend her. She said it would heal in about a month. I have to dip cotton balls in a sea salt and water mixture and put them in my nose for a few minutes twice a day. It stings once in a while and itches but nothing I can't handle.
Piercings feel good. They give you a deeper connection to your body. And just because it's painful doesn't mean you have to suffer from it. They're a growing experience and only make you stronger. It's better to have tried then to have always wondered what if?
I really like the way it looks and everyone thinks it's neat. People keep saying it must have hurt a lot but it didn't. I guess I'm just lucky. I'm so glad I did it. I don't even notice it unless I move my head up and down. I wouldn't change a thing about the whole experience. I hope someone finds my experience helpful. I totally recommend getting this piercing.
I love my septum piercing!
