It was the kind of moment that you only have one chance to do. Well, I took that chance. I never really wanted a nose piercing of any sort, ever. The first time I ever saw a septum piercing was in a Prodigy music video and I thought it was absolutely disgusting. Of course, I was about 12 and everything was disgusting to me at that point of time. All I had were 4 ear piercings and that was it. Then a couple of months ago, I was surfing BME and I was reading experiences about the piercing. I still didn't like it, but it was very intriguing.
At A Glance Author Alicia Contact Alicia@bme.anon When Three months ago A couple of months ago, a very good friend of mine met the piercer, Nate. He is a certified trained piercer, but he doesn't work in a shop at the present date. She had been getting a series of different piercings from him and I went with her a couple of times. She was talking about getting her septum done a couple of months ago, but she was afraid and wanted someone to do it with her.
Back to what I was thinking...she tried and tried to convince me to do it with her. I kept saying no until the day the piercing grew on me. I wanted to do it and it was one of those things that my parents would always say no to. Before this piercing, I had probably gone through 5 or 6 different piercings, but I would always take them out. Then I decided that I wanted this one.
I had forgotten about the piercing and didn't think about it. Then one day I was driving in the car with that friend and she asked if she should get her septum pierced and from there we went to Nate's house. We stopped at Freaky's, a Tattoo and Head Shop to get jewelry because the both of us are allergic to nickel and they sell surgical implant, which is the only thing we can wear. Then we were off to Nate's house.
I was super nervous and I kept shaking, so my friend went first. I watched him do the whole thing on her and it kind of eased my nerves. Then it was my turn, he cleaned my nose, then he felt around for the 'soft spot' is what he called it. When he found it, he marked it with a marker and made me check it in the mirror. It was hard to find, but I thought it was perfect.
I went back out to him and he had me lay down. He put his gloves on and showed me the packaged needle. He took the septum clamps out (I absolutely had no idea that there was a difference for clamps they use on other piercings and septum clamps) and he lined it up with the tiny dot after he unpackaged the needle. He told me that he was going to count to three, but I needed to take a deep breath and on three I was to exhale. I did what he told me and the piercing was over. I had my eyes closed and when I opened them, there was the needle in my nose. He put the jewelry in and the piercing was over. We paid and left his house.
I love this piercing because it is easy to hide from my parents because I am underage. I probably could have waited the whole year until I turned 18, but I wanted it so bad. I went to the extreme and got it done in a basement. All I have to do is flip it up and my parents won't see it. I haven't had any trouble with it yet. All that really happened to me was the end of my nose bruising and swelling just a bit, but not enough to notice.
I don't touch it with out washing my hands and I clean it with this spray my younger sister got when she got her ears pierced called H2Ocean. It speeds up the healing process and works on any kind of injury and piercing, and it is worth the 10 dollars I spent at the piercing shop. I wet a Q-Tip and clean it with a sea salt soak and the healing is great. I also use the Q-Tip to clean all the crusties away from the hole.
My friends thought it wasn't going to look very good on me, but all of them rave about the piercing. My close friend has not had any trouble with her septum ring and she loves that we both got them done at the same time. Like I said, it was spur of the moment and it only cost me 50 bucks with jewelry. Plus, it was a pinch and it was over. It didn't hurt that much and it was totally worth the experience.
My piercing is healing nicely and it does not hurt as much as it did. I still hit my nose from time to time and it stings a bit, but it is only because I have a sensitive nose. I would recommend this piercing because it is so easy to take care of and it is so easy to hide, because I work in a restaurant and they are not friendly to piercings.
I would also suggest not getting it done in some person's basement; weather or not the person is trained. Go to a parlor, if you are underage, just wait. I know I could have, but I didn't. A parlor is more sanitary and has better values than that of a basement piercer.
