Through out my life I was always a bit different, and always wanted to stand out from the crowd. And I usually did a good job of that seeing as my hair had been every colour of the rainbow, and I was just a generally weird kid. But by the time I reached 7th grade I NEEDED something else. Something to separate me even more from my peers. So I decided that I wanted a piercing. No, that I needed a piercing,

I spent the next four years of my life convincing my mom to let my get my eyebrow, nice lip, or just about anything pierced. Although I never convinced her enough to actually let me get one, I had, by the age of 15 had her down to three rules.

1) I had to be able to keep my job
2) I had to be old enough to do it on my own
3) And I had to pay for it myself

So on my 16th birthday I set my mind to just exactly what I was going to get done. I had the money, so that was no problem, and I was old enough, so that left keeping my job. And my job apparently wasn't a big fan of body modification at all, so that left me with only piercings that I could hide. I drew a blank; I had no clue what I could get done.

One week after my birthday I went to my brother's house so we could catch the bus to the piercing place. I had, after much deliberation decided to get my nostril pierced. Once I got there I realized that he had another friend over, and I told her what we were going to do, she immediately got excited and decided that I had chosen the completely wrong piercing. She suggested that I got my septum pierced.

I didn't exactly know what to think. The only people I had ever seen this piercing with looked absolutely horrible, but it was much better hidden then the nostril, and she assured me it would look great. I'm easily convinced I guess. I didn't even know what it would look like on me, but I was getting it done always.

So half an hour later we hopped in the bus and we were on our way. I had never gotten anything else pierced before, so I was ridiculously nervous, not to mention my fear of pain. And it really didn't help that she kept on telling me how much it would hurt, and many other bad things, but I was set on getting this piercing, so I tried to stay calm.

The entire walk from the bus to the piercing place I was shaking and could barely walk, but we made it there. Once we got in I was completely and utterly uneasy, it was full of things that a straight edge kid such as myself wasn't such a big fan of, but I got over and signed the papers to get my septum pierced.

We walked into one of the back rooms and my now new friend was extremely excited and giddy, while I was sitting in a chair wondering what was going to happen to me. My piercer then slapped on some gloves and started sticking his fingers up my nose. His fingers had something on them that I was hoping had some sort of numbing stuff on them, but nope, I was wrong, soap. But I was willing to suck it up and take the pain...I guess.

He then stuck some sort of pliers up my nose, but with holes, for piercing septum's I guess. He also told me that the septum piercing was one of the least painful piercings there was, as well as the fact that I had a large "sweet spot", so it would be fairly painless.

Then came time for me to actually get the piercing. I had my friends hand held tightly and I was trying to stay calm, and soon enough the needle was through, and I was thinking "What?? That's its? Were done?" The piercing was surprisingly painless, in fact, I barely felt it, and there was almost no blood. I felt so stupid for being so worried before.

Once I looked in the mirror I was immediately in love. It was a monument dedicated to the first 16 years of my life, and I was extremely glad that I had gone through with it. And now over 6 months later I am still extremely pleased and very happy with my septum piercing. Since my experience I have convinced more then enough people to do it themselves, and for anybody who in considering it I say go right ahead because it has marvelous results. I couldn't be happier with mine.
