I've been checking out the BME site every day for about 6 months now after I got my first piercings. Both nipples on new years eve hooked me and I wanted more immediately. I looked at everything that was possible to be pierced, from genitals to surface piercings, and everything above, below, and in between. Seeing as I am in the military, any facial piercings were out of the question. Or were they? I did some research to see whether I could get a tongue piercing, or an eyebrow piercing with a retainer, but figured out soon from other people's experiences that they are very difficult to hide. I soon gave up my search and in the meantime got a couple of new tattoos.
At A Glance Author Jason Contact Jason@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Dustin Studio Devotion, Inc. Location Boise, ID Alot had been going on in my life in the past few months that affected my life alot. My girlfriend had a miscarriage when she was three months along into her pregnancy, I had gotten in trouble at work for financial issues, and I was well on my way to being removed from service to my country. Everything was coming down at once in my life and it was taking everything I had to keep it all together. I hardly ever slept and every waking moment was spent either busting my ass at work, hunched over my laptop trying to get myself financially straight, or helping my girlfriend feel better about herself and our situation. Well, long story short, things finally worked themselves out and I kept my career, lost my house, and broke up with my girlfriend.
I moved back on base and decided to start my life over from scratch. I was surfing the internet and decided to stop by BME to see what was new and exciting in the piercing world. The first thing that caught my eye was a guy lying on an exam table, with his eyes close, and a needle through his septum, corked on the end. I also saw another pic later of the same guy without his septum piercing. I emailed him and asked him what caused him to removed his septum piercing. He said that he didn't, he just had a retainer in while it was healing. That was the moment that I decided what my next piercing would be. I researched septums until I was in my own opinion, an expert in what I could and could not do.
With my new found knowledge, I called Dustin at Devotion, Inc in Boise, the same guy who had done my nipple piercings. He said come in and let him know what I needed done. I stopped by and was going to go ahead and do it that day, but I thought twice about it and decided against it that day. About two weeks later I finally made up my mind that I was going to do this, and stopped by again, cash in hand, ready to start my life over. Dustin asked me to come back to the piercing room with him and watch him set up his equipment, so that I could be sure it was all sterile.
He showed me the 14G retainer he was going to use and said that instead of using clamps like he had on my nipples, he would be using a receiving tube. He asked me to lay down on the table with by head slightly hanging over the end so that my nose was straight up, in a good position to mark and pierce it. He cleaned my nose out with antiseptic and a q-tip, and made sure it was spotless inside. He searched around with a toothpick for the sweet spot, which is the thinnest spot in the septum, perfect for piercing. This actually was the most uncomfortable and painful part of the piercing. He then marked the spot with a little tattoo ink on a toothpick, and then checked it out three or four times to make sure it was perfectly straight. Then we started the good part. After he changed gloves he picked up his needle and receiving tube and asked me to breath in deeply, and slowly let it out. As most of my air went out of my lungs, and I started to wonder whether he was actually going to push it through, I felt a pinch like he had barely touch me with the needle, and told me it was through, corking it. He checked it to be sure it was straight and picked up the retainer from his tray. He pushed the retainer in as he withdrew the needle and spent a few seconds getting it nice and straight. He then told me to check it out in the mirror to see if I liked it. I loved it! It was freakin awesome. He then told me how to flip the retainer up and I went ahead and did it. It was 99% invisible and only if you looked to see if it was actually there. I payed Dustin $30 for the piercing and a $10 tip. I had restarted my life that day and was ready for bigger and better things. Now I'm on leave and everyone I've talked to either loves it, hates it, or is too interested in pinching their own septums to see how much it would hurt. It's a great piercing and I recommend it to anyone that wants to be discreet.
