I got my first real piercing when I was 16 years old. I don't actually count my ears because it seemed so routine at the time, but that's neither here nor there. I was having a really rough time, and decided that I wanted to have a total overhaul to sort of show how much I had changed and grown. I went and totally changed the way my hair was and the way I carried myself.

So, I decided, why not get something pierced too. I thought for awhile and decided that my nose would be perfect for my first piercing. It didn't look gaudy, it seemed simple, and I didn't think that it would hurt too much. So, I began working on getting my mom to let me get it done. She wasn't too hard to win over once she knew that I just wanted a small stud, not some huge ring. My dad was harder to get permission from, but in the end he said that it was my nose and I could do whatever I pleased with it. So, I decided to wail until summer vacation to get it done. One day, my mom and I went to the mall and we were in a store that sold body jewelry and we asked the woman at the counter where she would recommend getting this piercing done at. She told us that she had gotten her bellybutton pierced at Black Pearl Tattoos and they were clean, reliable, and friendly. So, we decided that we would go there.

We picked a day and we went to Kenosha to get it done. We drove around for awhile to get some things done first. Finally, we went there. My little brother was with us, and he was really upset. He didn't want me to get anything pierced at all, and he didn't want to be there either. If he had it his way I would never change at all, but he'll learn. Anyway, so my mom said she would go in with me. The piercers name was Mike and he was really nice. I picked out a small dark blue nose stud and we went back to the piercing room. He got his gloves and supplies ready and then showed me the needle.

It was a lot bigger than I expected, but I was in no way going to back down. My mom afterwards said she never could have gone through with it. So, Mike marked the spot on my nose where the piercing would be, and I looked in the mirror to make sure that it was in a good spot. So, once all those little details were out of the way, he told me to sit back, close my eyes, and take a deep breath. I didn't really have any time to think about what was happening and when I finally did stop to think, the whole thing was over.

The piercing wasn't too bad at all. I know it sounds like a smartass thing to say, but the best way to describe it is the feeling of a needle going through my nose. The only part that was even near painful was the part where he put the bar in. It was just a small bar bent in an L-shape. He had me sit for a few minutes, and then I was ready to leave.

After the fact, I did have a problem with the healing process. At first everything was fine, but a few days after, the stud got stuck on a towel and was partially ripped out. Pushing it back in was more painful than getting it pierced in the first place! After that, it happened again in the shower, when it snagged on a washcloth. That didn't hurt, but I decided to put a ring in so it wouldn't keep getting ripped out. When I bought the ring, it was listed as a 18 gauge, but it was mis-sized. Since the ring was bigger than the piercing, and the wound hadn't yet healed, it stretched my nose and caused a huge scab to form around the rind. It hurt so bad whenever it moved! So, I decided to take it out and put another bar in. The scab went away and everything was fine.

When I got home from vacation, I tried to put a nose screw in, but the hole healed before I could put the screw in. So, I had to repierce it myself. After I finally got the new jewelry in, my nose healed perfectly, and now it is fine. It has been almost a year now, and I haven't had any problems since. I would recommend a nose piercing for anyone wanting something small, quick, and pretty much painless. It is a great piercing and I love it!
