My tax return arrived and I was off to get pierced. This would be my third experience with piercing. The first was my ear on a High School trip to NYC. It involved an ice cube, a lighter, and a sewing needle. That piercing fell out that night.

My second was a nipple piercing in around '93 that lasted about 2 months and I finally took it out because of infections.

Now here I was heading to Tommy T's to get four piercings in one sitting. Being in the military I couldn't have any visible piercings so everything would have to be concealed. So I had already decided on frenum, nipples, and septum.

The piercer helped me pick out the jewelry, and then got the table ready. A screen was put in place to hide me. I was most nervous about the frenum and second most about the septum because I heard that is very painful.

The frenum went pretty well, not nearly as painful as I thought, the nipples were a bit more painful, by this time I had sensory overload.

Now comes the septum. The one I heard hurts the most. I was already feeling light headed and thinking of backing off on this one. She had told me for a small extra charge they could numb the area for the piercing. Before I had said no, but at this point I asked. Unfortunately she said the septum was one area that wouldn't work.

Now I'm really thinking of backing out. While I'm thinking of it she is sanitizing my nose and marking the spot. Then it's clamped, I can't really see what's going on. The needle is lined up I take the breath, and now I feel the railroad spike going in! My eyes tear up and I feel big drops rolling down my face. Unfortunately the pain is not over, the needle has to go the rest of the way through, and then the ring inserted.

The ring is in now the balls need to be attached to the ends the twisting feels really painful and my eyes continue to run over. Finally it's done.

On shaky legs I get up, walk around the screen and to the little rest and recovery area. I sit on a couch where a guy had just gotten his ear pierced, and a cute young thing just got something else pierced, I forget what. They ask me about my piercing, if it was the septum that I got done. I say yes, but that I also got my nipples and frenum done. Of course I have to explain what the frenum is.

It was a great feeling. I felt pretty extreme at this point.

With the pain of the piercings I had an endorphin rush as I left the store. A runner's high.

Part 2. Sunday night.

I have to work on Monday. I go to turn the piercing up and hide it in my nose. The gap of the horseshoe is too narrow. So I have to remove the balls. I don't know what she used to tighten the balls but they are not coming loose! On top of that my nose is still super tender. The twisting is making my eyes tear up. I need pliers or something. I can't find mine, did I loan them out???

Off to Target I go getting there five minutes before closing I buy a plier set and come back home. With a lot of twisting, a bit of pain and a few choice words the bead finally loosens up. With the weird angle of the bent bar, the reflection in the mirror, it was hard to tell which way was tightening it and which way was loosening. Luckily I finally got it, I was about to just clip the balls off.

So now the balls are off and the piercing is hidden in my nose I go to bed. A bit of blood in the morning cleans up easily. I can still notice the piercing even though the bar is a subdued black. No one the first day notices it and I later swap the ring for a retainer that is almost invisible, though some of the people I work with have noticed it. I still haven't gotten in trouble for it, seems like none of the officers have seen it.

Another advantage of it is the girls seem to like it. I am a bit of a rivet head (industrial/goth type) and am a bit clean cut. So when I'm all geared up with my piercing in it gives me a bit of an extreme edge. My girlfriend now loves my piercings and she has quite a few of her own.

I'm a man in uniform, but inside I have to have my little rebellions.
