I wasn't very fond of septum piercings until about a year ago. I started browsing BME and became obsessed.

I was in Manhattan with my sister and some friends and we went into the piercing studio on St. Marks Place because my sister wanted to re-pierce her eyebrow. I knew I wanted to be pierced again, but because of my job I wasn't allowed. The piercer suggested a septum ring. It was easily hidden if you flipped it inside your nose. So I said "fuck it". I had to get it.
I had never fainted from any piercing I've gotten before. The piercer cleaned the inside of my nose and got ready to pierce me. As soon as she stuck the needle through the clamps I felt this sharp pain that was numbing and at the same time stinging like peroxide on a paper cut. The piercer couldn't get the ring through the first time so I think it was the second or third time when I passed out. The pain wasn't so bad, it was more of being so continual. I didn't think it would end. When I came to I remember cursing at the piercer for waking me up with an ammonia inhalent. The ammonia went right to my head and made me feel like shit but at least it woke me up. I was fine a few minutes later and watched my sister get pierced. I was pretty excited and ready to take care of my new piercing. I walked out of that studio with a smile on my face.
I went to the drug store before I got home and made sure to buy some antibacterial soap to clean the ring with. I had to flip it up inside my nose otherwise mom would freak of course. When it was inside my nose, it made my septum stick out on the outside which had to have affected the healing process. About a month after I got my septum done, one of the balls fell off the ring. I guess I was too lazy to get up and buy another one, and it ended up falling out in the middle of my sleep. By the time I woke up and realized it had fallen out, I tried to put it back in and it had closed up. A few months later I had decided to get it re-pierced. I went to a studio in Queens, one that I had gone to before many times. On that day, my normal piercer wasn't there. So I went to another piercer and told him I wanted my septum pierced. The first sign that I should have taken and realized not to get it pierced by him was when he was shoving pizza down his throat right before the pierced me. He showed me a ring about 12g which i thought was too big. He also mentioned he had never pierced the septum before. "I've never done that spot before, but if I fuck it up, it's free." I was so intent on getting it that day I just went for it. Turns out, it was free. First he lined up the holes exactly where the scar had been from the previous time it had been pierced, then he just stabbed it in. I thought it was pretty unprofessional. He couldn't get the ring in. He just shouted "It's free!", like I was supposed to jump out of my seat and kiss him a hug. I asked if I could give it a try and get the ring in myself. I wasn't able to find the holes so he offered to re-pierce it. There was blood all over my mouth. The piercer told me "the hole is where the blood is coming out.Hahaha." What an ass. He poked another hole in my septum and finally got the ring through. The next morning there was no way I could have flipped the ring inside my nose because the ring was too big. I ended up taking it out and putting in an extra web rin "\Ãw€ë g I had. But when I took the ring out, it actually ripped the inside of the hole and started bleeding all over the place again.
It's been about a month since that happened and it's still bothering me. It hasn't been able to fully heal since I have to flip it inside my nose everyday for work. I'm actually glad I had this experience. I made a mistake...I got pierced by an unprofessional and now I know never to do that again. It was probably the worst experience I've had with any of my piercings. It hasn't gotten infected and I'm taking really good care of it. I got what I wanted but it took a little pain and time.
