About a year ago, I decided that I wanted, no NEEDED a nose piercing. I am getting older, and wanted to stay "hip". So I dragged my friend with me, we pumped ourselves up, and went to Blue Dragon to let some stranger punch holes into our bodies. (And you KNOW what my parent's said - "As if you NEED another hole in your head!"). When we got there, I was really nervous - I have 5 holes in each of my ears, but they were all done with a gun *gasp*, and I couldn't really see what was going on, and gun piercing is so quick! I gathered my Country Bumpkin courage though, selected the screw that I wanted, sat down and said that I was ready. I wanted my friend to get her's done at the same time... the guy was reluctant, but he said it was okay, if we sat in opposite sides of the room. The poor guy had to change gloves each time he went back and forth between us (I am thankful that he did though!!). So, he drew the dot, and asked me if I liked it there - I really didn't know either way, so I just agreed - I had never thought about that before!! Then, like lightening, he cleaned and pierced me before I even knew it! I was shocked. I am terrified of needles, but this was really good. It just felt very strange (I gasped really hard), but it was pretty painless. I held the gauze over it while he pierced my friend's nose - she took it like a pro!! After he did my friend's, we were outta there. I was surprised at how quick it all was!!

I LOVED my new piercing - I was careful to clean it just enough each day, and I was constantly checking it out. I got married a few months after, and I had a blue stone in for my "something blue".

My parents however, weren't so sure about it. I told my mom right away, and she squirmed a bit, but after a while, she got used to it. My dad didn't notice it for a long time (I wasn't living at home) but when he did, he freaked out!! He was really against it, and huffed at me every time he looked at it.

My husband wasn't all that enthralled with it either, but it was no match to my very conservative good friend, whom I will call Seth. He saw it and would barely speak to me! He refused to sit on my left side, where I had the piercing, and he barely even looked at me at all!! It was a bit hurtful, but it was mostly just humorous. He eventually calmed down, and accepted it, as long as he didn't have to listen to me talk about it.

Sadly though, I had to retire the piercing about 6 months after I got it. When I first got my piercing, I had a screw, which was okay, but since I have a small nose, it kept poking out the bottom, which looked funny and was really annoying. I decided to get a bone instead (A stud with a little nub on the end - like this O-o). When I got the first bone, the post was quite a bit smaller than the screw, so it slid in with practically no problem. However, then the hole shrunk around it, and when I had to change it (the stone fell out), it wouldn't budge! At the end of the day, I had to just bite my lip and pull. It was soo painful!! Then I tried to put the new one in right away, while the hole was still big enough to fit the nub through. It just wouldn't go through, though - no matter how hard I tried - so I took out my wire cutters and nipped off the nub at the end (WARNING - I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS!!). I cleaned it thoroughly, and popped it in. It stung like mad!! The end was pointy from where it was cut, and it kept falling out. It just hurt and hurt. I am very susceptible to infection (which is one of the reasons I waited so long to get it - I was terrified of looking like Rudolph if it got really bad), so I took it out. It only took about a week or so to heal, which was really sad. It has been almost a year now since I removed it, so I think I am going to try again this summer - I have heard that the screw would be a better way to go, and I can get it custom fit to my wittow nose :-).

I loved my nose piercing, even though it had to go. At least I have my wedding pictures to immortalize it forever!!
