Ok, well at the time I decided to get my septum pierced I had already have labret, 2 lip rings, both eyebrows and my tongue done, so I kind of knew what to expect. I went into Mystic Tattoo, a local shop that I had been hanging out at and talking to the piercer/tattoo artist/owner. I went in and told him what I wanted to do and he agreed that it would compliment the rest of my piercings well. So we went ahead with it. I filled out all my paper work and went over aftercare and all that basic stuff. Then it was time. I went in the back and sat on the bench he was using (I later realized that I should have been in a chair with a backrest). He cleaned the area, and went ahead with the piercing (w/o clamps). He told me to take a deep breath and then started shoving the needle through. As soon as the needle went into my nose I suddenly jerked my head back (hence why I said I should have had a headrest). He responds saying "You OK?" I told him I was fine, then to my horror he says "You want me to push it the rest of the way through?" I responded with a frantic "YOU MEAN YOU STOPPED?!". So I told him to finish it. Got cleaned up and went home with my new piercing.

On top of the pain I noticed that the exit side of the piercing had swollen up pretty badly, causing a good amount of discomfort. Stopped at the shop after school and D said we should take it out, let it heal and try again, because it was crooked due to me jerking my head back. I agreed and we removed it.
Went back in about a week later and decided to get it done again, this time he used clamps and had me lay down on the bench. Didn't hurt bad the second time, and it came out much straighter, so I was happy.
A few months go by and I decided to start stretching it. I was working at a piercing shop in Daytona Beach so I got some good prices on jewelry. I decided to go with a 10g pincher. Went in fairly easily, so a couple weeks later I stuck an 8g in, a little harder but not bad.
Ok now a couple months have passed and I start to notice that my 8g is pretty loose. So I decided to stretch again. I had the guy at work that did stretching and stuff do it for me (this was and still is the only stretch I did not do myself). He got the taper out and lubed it up. Pushed it through until it was nice and tight then he says "You ready?" I answer, telling him I was and he SLAMS the taper through!. As it goes through I notice a pop and a rush of bad pain in my nose. He had cracked the cartilage on the bottom of my septum in half. So I left very very sore and headed home. At a later date I found out that was the first time he had ever stretched someones septum, which I responded to him with a sarcastic "way to screw that up". Later that night my g/f accidently kneed me in the nose sending the feeling of a broken nose straight to my brain.
After a while it healed up ok, and I continued on my stretching journey. Making the decision to keep doing it myself instead of goin to someone else. Popped in a 4g pincher, noticing it stretched easier. I chalked that up to the cracked cartilage giving me more leeway in my septum. Little while later popped a 2g bone pincher in.
Now it is at a 2g and it has become my favorite piercing out of my now 17 (eyebrows [2], bridge, septum, tongue, lobes [2], helix [2], industrials [2], nostril, lip [2], nipples [2]). My only problem I have found it the difficulty in finding larger gauge jewelry for it at a reasonable price. But one day I will stumble across something I like. I plan on tryin to take it to a 0g, but I'm starting to get cautious because of the trauma to my cartilage. Personally I think it is an awesome piercing, and everyone should try it =o). Just make sure that the piercer you go to knows what he is doing, and I would reccomend going somewhere that uses a chair and not a bench or table, cuz you don't wanna jerk your head back on this one. Good luck and happy piercing.
