So this begins with this small burning desire to have my septum pierced. I was chatting it up online with a friend of mine. We were talking about all of the various piercings that we wanted to have done and at what guages we thought would look best on each of us. She says something like, "I would kill to have an 8g septum" i said something similar. She then decides that we should have them done at the same time because she likes to go get pierced with friends.

I searched the house over, found 5 bucks and called the Clanton C&D. Well, the number had been disconnected, so I called the Alabaster store.. YES!!! Answer! A strangely familiar female voice answered so I proceeded to ask about the piercing.. If they were capable to do it and at what size they would pierce me. After she said a few things I realized that it was Dana, my piercer at the Clanton location. She said that the Clanton store had been shut down so they could expand the Alabaster store.
She told me that they would do it at 14 because they didn't have any larger needles in stock and they'd do it with a cbr, no retainers. I was fine with that, and asked if she would be there around 6. She said yes and that was that.. I had the money, the desire and the hook-up. My friend for some reason didn't go with me, so I called another. He was pumped about it and was going to go to Birmingham anyway, so everything worked out.
So we get there and there are like 8 other people in for work to be done. As I walked passed the room, I saw Dana giving someone a monroe, she finished up, then came and gave me a hug. She told me that it would be a few minutes before she could see me. Lots of customers. In the meantime I asked if they could do it with the cbr, just bent wide enough that I could flip it up and without the bead. She said that wouldn't be a problem and after a wait, I was next.
I hopped on the stool and she began to tell me that I was the first septum that the shop had done, not the first that she had done, but the first in the shop. Floppy, the other piercer was watching as she went over what she was going to do and the pre piercing question/answer forum. So then she sticks her finger in my nose and feels for a while.. I get the dot on the right side.. THAT.. Was the most painful part of the whole thing.. An unmerciful dot.. Dot on the left side and then she made a comment about how she had always heard that you could pick your friends, and you could pick your nose, but that you couldn't pick your friends nose.. Then she laughed and said she picked my nose... Wiped her finger on some tissue and here come the forceps.
Now, most people say that the forceps hurt more than anything else associated with the piercing, but in my experience it was that damned dot. The forceps didn't hurt at all, but they were uncomfortable. After a few seconds I couldn't even feel them there, and then came the needle. She told me to look upwards and to close my eyes. I felt the pressure, but no pain. Forceps off and then she chased the needle with the jewelry. That was slightly painful, but not terrible. I could feel the tears running down my face. She asked if I was alright, I said yes and then I looked over and I had a ring in my nose. She made me sit there for a minute because she knew that I was epileptic and didn't want me passing out and having a seizure in the lobby. Then wiped my tears off and released me.
A few days passed and the crusties were really pissing me off. They were so abundant and so hard. Like small rocks. After about a week i got tired of it looking crooked (it was just a bent up cbr after all) and I wanted to change it. I knew better, but I couldn't help it. I changed to a 14g 7/16" cbr. After a few days of having that in I stretched to a 12g. Much to my amazement the crusties subsided. they were still there, but not nearly as abundant and not nearly as hard. I convinced myself that the difference between a 12g and a 10g wasn't big at all, and I had a 10g plug that I could put in there if I needed to hide it, so I stretched the next day. I stayed at 10g for about a day before I examined the difference between a 10g plug and an 8g flesh tunnel. The 10g wouldn't even fit inside the 8g. So... I stretched again.
Less than two weeks after having my septum pierced I had stretched it to an 8g.. I would really really not like for others to take my lack of patients and assume that it was a good idea to do. I know that it wasn't, but like I said... I'm impatient sometimes. Thus far, I haven't seen any bad effects from what I've done, and I'm hoping that I don't, but things are possible. As far as how it looks though. It's great. I imagine that it will look even better when I get my tusks and retainer. The 1/2" 8g cbr is kind of oafish in my opinion.
So, if you're thinking of getting a septum piercing, don't let the horror stories of how painful it was deter you from it. However, if you are a big fan of picking your nose, you might want to weigh the decision a little before jumping into it. That will hurt for a few days, weeks maybe. Watch out for the surgical marker though, that part does hurt. And, if you have a bad allergies, you're so gonna pay a hefty price for your new piercing. I'd do it again if I had to though. Not bad at all.
