My eyes were opened to the wonders of septum piercing when I carried Uberkitty to have hers done. I had never really seen a septum piercing up close and personal before. It was seeing hers that helped me realize just how good they really looked. I was thoroughly impressed. Despite this, it would still be a while before I would have mine done...

My first septum piercing was also my first sporadic, unplanned piercing. Things weren't going so well at home. My father locked himself in his house and taken all the medication he had in an attempt at suicide earlier into the day and after a while was taken to the hospital unconscious and put in the intensive care unit. At this point, I was in a bizarre mood and I desperately needed to feel something. I didn't want to cut myself and make the situation even worse, so instead I ran off to have something pierced. My septum seemed to be the best choice at the time. I ran up to the wonderful people at Sleepy Hollow in Roanoke Rapids and had my septum pierced...

The procedure all went as normal. After sitting for a while, I went into the piercing room, had my septum area cleansed and examined and the supplies readied. Shortly there after, there was a 14 gauge CBR in my septum. My eyes watered but the pain really wasn't bad at all. I examined my new piercing, paid, tipped and went about my way...

Fast forward about five days, and with the exception of my new piercing that has become my favorite of all my mods, things still are pretty down all around. My father was still in the hospital, but no longer in ICU. He had regained consciousness and was in the psychiatric hall now. While having my septum pierced helped and brightened me up for a few days, the initial pleasure of it all had worn off. I was back in the midst of that original depression that caused me to run out and have it pierced. So, I ended up slicing my left forearm quite bad and having to go to the hospital for eleven stitches. This is what led to the removal of my septum ring. I was on the verge of being committed to the psych ward myself. As a "peace offering" and sort of a bribe to my mother, I removed the septum CBR and she agreed to talk to my psychiatrist and vouch for me so he would let me go back home with her instead of making me stay. I hated having to do it, and I actually did start to cry a little when I had to remove it, but it was either remove it or spend some time in the hospital. I chose the first option...

I would not be without my septum piercing for too long though. Eventually I moved to Greenville and met Steve at Cape Fear. With his help, I was going to get back the septum I missed so much. This time however it would be planned out and not just a random, desperate for sensation experience. Actually, because of my job not allowing any visible piercings on males, it would have to be planned out in a way that would not interfere with work...

Initially, to solve this problem I was just going to have my septum pierced and then a retainer put in instead of any other jewelry. I was just going to heal the septum with the retainer. This plan solved the work problem, and got me back my septum. This was the plan for a day or two, until the idea of having my septum punched came about. I loved this new modified plan. I would just have my septum punched at a large enough gauge that I could wear a plug through the piercing. The average person would never even notice the plug, plus I could wear smaller gauge CBRs and CBBs through the plug when I wasn't at work. I would also have a nice large gauge septum. Everything about this plan was great. So I contacted Steve, we sorted out the details and I gave him a rough estimate of when to expect me in for the procedure...

When the time finally arrived, I went up to Cape Fear and Steve quickly examined my septum. We agreed that four gauge would be a nice size to go with, then he showed me the pyrex tunnel that would soon be in my nose, and left to go prep his room and supplies. After a while, everything was ready and he invited me back to begin...

I sat back and looked over at his supplies. I had never been punched, nor had I ever even seen a dermal punch before. So I looked over it and asked about it, just because it fascinated me. I forget the exact size of the punch he used, but it was somewhere slightly smaller than four gauge. He was going to punch it with that and then run a four gauge taper through it to finish it off...

Anyways, after discussing the supplies, my septum was cleaned, examined and marked for placement. Steve then adjusted and placed the clamps. This was the worst part of the procedure to me. They were just very uncomfortable. But of course, what do you expect with rough clamps tightly secured to your septum..

After a few watery eyed moments, Steve was ready with the punch. Like always he had me a take a few breathes then forced the punch through. As with most every mod I've had, it was nowhere near as bad as I expected it to be. Next the taper went through. With my septum already sore from the clamps and punch, this did not feel too good. Not unbearable, not really even all that bad, just not too good by any means...

Now it was just a matter putting the tunnel in, which went through nice and easy, then everything was over and done. Steve cleaned me up a bit, and then I examined myself in the mirror as always and checked out my new four gauge septum. Everything was wonderful. Not only did I have my septum back, but now it was much larger and easier to hide. How great!! So anyways, I paid, tipped and thanked Steve and went about my way...

It's been a roughly two months or so now and everything is still fine. The healing and aftercare all went by easily, with no problems at all which is quite amazing for someone like me. No one has noticed unless I've personally shown it off. No problems at work, and I've even been home several times since then and my own mother has yet to notice it...^_^. It's just been wonderful. So, what started out as desperation piercing ended up becoming my favorite piercing. I had to have pierced, removed and then punched, but it's all most defiantly been worth it. I love and will always love my septum.
