I had been thinking of getting a septum piercing for quite some time, but had been put off by reading horror stories and people telling me how painful it was and that it wouldn't suit me and so on and so forth.

Recently, my family split up, and I have been feeling pretty low. I don't have a great body, in fact I really despise it, but I find modification helps me to feel a tiny bit better about the way I look and feel, i felt that now was the perfect time to get another modification, in order for me to control myself and help me feel better., I decided I needed to get a piercing.

I have been a self cutter before and only a few months ago managed to control myself and don't cut as much. I was afraid I might do it again and I had to do something to stop me. You might be saying, How will a piercing help her to stop cutting? My answer is that with a piercing I have something to care for, something to mother if you like and I have found before that piercings help me to stop for a while.

So, a piercing it was. I told my mum what I was doing, and she said I was more than welcome to get a piercing now that dad had left, as he was the person that used to get really mad when someone in our house got a piercing. My sister told me she wanted a labret piercing and I told her to go for it. So we decided that we would do it. We caught the bus into town and headed straight for the best piercing shop in the whole of England!

Inside, it was empty and Paul was putting some jewelry into the glass display cases. He greeted us as usual, all cheery and smiley. My sister told him what she wanted first, and I then told him I wanted a septum piercing and he was like ''Great stuff!''

We went through into the piercing room and my sister sat in the gorgeous leathery char, as she was going to be pierced first, as she was extremely nervous. Paul got us both to fill out consent forms and then got the supplies ready.

He showed us that the needles were packaged and that he was wearing gloves and all the usual they do when you go for a piercing.

Once my sister was done it was my turn.I asked Paul if I could have a retainer put in, and he went to go and show me one. Gosh! How tiny, I could not believe how small it was, but decided it was what I would like.

I sat in the chair and asked if it was going to hurt. Paul shook his head and told me I wouldn't be able to feel a thing. He had already put numbing solution on my septum whilst my sister was being pierced, in order for it to soak in.

He got the septum clamps out and rammed them up my nose. God! The clamps hurt a hell of a lot more than actual piercings!

He lined the needle up and pushed it through my septum. I could not feel a thing, apart from the needle exiting my septum, which was painless!

He put the jewelry in and cleaned me up. I was surprised that my nose did not bleed at all. Paul had me watch as he destroyed and disposed of the needle he used.

I looked in the mirror, but could only see two little black things on either side of my septum.Paul went through the aftercare procedure with me (salt soaks twice a day)and we stayed and chatted for a while, then paid and left.

I actually kick myself for not getting a ring put in now, but I will get one put in for my birthday, as I have decided I am going to treat myself and get my medusa pierced at the same time I change my retainer for a ring.

The healing of my septum has gone fantastically, even though it was done a few days ago I have experienced no pain at all and there has been no swelling or anything.

I really cannot wit to get a ring put in, as I can't really see what it looks like with a retainer in. I am extremely happy with my piercing, and although I am sad to say that it has not stopped me from cutting(i guess it is a part of me), it has made me happier. I want to say to anybody thinking about getting a septum piercing to go for it. It is painless and you will be so happy with it, whether you get a ring or a retainer. If you have any questions or just wan to chat, feel free to e-mail me. I am always happy to answer questions and talk to people.
