Okay, so i got my lip pierced about two weeks after I moved to boston to go to college. And I liked it, but it was a little annoying. I was between lip and septum, but I figured i'd get my lip done because I've wanted it for years.

Then, when my mom found out, she made me take it out. It was sad. I bitched about it to everyone around me, and they were like 'get over it'

So, then, I decided to go get my septum pierced. Not only did I think it was cool, but it looks like it's really easy to hide, so my parents wouldn't find out.

Three weeks later (last night) I went to the chameleon in harvard square with my friend. He was also with me when i got my lip pierced, and, although he wanted me to get my septum pierced, he was skeptical because he thought my parents might see it and get mad again.

I had gotten my lip pierced at the chameleon as well, and they did a really great job and were really nice and professional. I also heard that septums were one of their specialties.

I asked them if it would be hidden enough with a retainer, because that was a big concern, and they said that with a retainer it would be totally hidden unless someone stared up my nose with a flashlight. That was great news.

I picked out a 16g stainless steel retainer to get it pierced with, because thanksgiving is in a few weeks, and I wouldn't be able to change it before I saw my parents again.

Owen, the piercer, set everything up, and when he called me in I got really nervous that it was going to hurt a lot, because I've heard that it could be the most painful piercing. I also have my conch pierced, and that didn't really hurt, so I guess I have a pretty high pain tolerence.

He had me sit down and told me about how he was going to use a recieving tube for it, which I heard was a lot better than a clamp. he also told me that it wouldn't hurt nearly as bad as I would think it would because he obviously knew the correct spot to put it so it wouldn't hurt too much. He cleaned my nose and put his pinkies up my nostrils to see where my sweet spot was, and I was releaved to hear that I have a very large sweet spot and that this would be easy.

Then he told me that my eyes were going to water a lot when he pierces it. He told me to hold my friend's hand and breathe in and exhale and I did, and I didn't even realize that he had done it. The retainer was already in. I didn't even feel it. At all. It was so weird. It was as if nothing happened. My eyes barely watered and I didn't flinch one bit. My friend didn't even know that it happened because I didn't squeeze his hand hard or anything.

He had me look at it in the mirror and it looked like the placement was perfect. It wasn't crooked at all, and I've heard that that could be a problem with septums.

Then he flipped the retainer up in my nose and had me look in the mirror again. It was COMPLETELY invisible from the outside. I had to tilt my head all the way back and look really far up my nose to even slightly see it. That made me so happy. my parents would never be able to see it. I tipped owen and thanked him profusely for doing such a great job with it.

I bought some salt water spray and left, thinking that it would probably swell and start to hurt later in the night. But it didn't. at all. I cleaned it a few times at night, leaving it flipped up in my nose and went to sleep. the next day, I cleaned it a few more times with the salt water spray, and tried cleaing it in the shower with lathered soap in my hands by blowing bubbles into it with my nose, but that didn't work so well, so I stuck to the salt water spray.

It has now been a bit over 24 hours since i got it done. It doesn't hurt at all; in fact, I don't even notice that it's there. I keep the retainer flipped up in my nose, but I can take it down no problem. it's not crusty or swollen or painful at all. I don't even feel it.

I would really recommend the chameleon to anyone in the boston area, especially for septums, because they seem to do them incredibly well. I am very happy with my piercing and can't wait until I can put a regular circular barbell in it. Also, it's a lot less annoying and doesn't get in the way of anything like lip rings do.
