I have been long waiting to get my septum pierced, I have always been attracted to nose mod's like the bridge but the septum is a piercing that has really stood out to me for years. I have had a previous diy experience with septum piercing which was a big mistake, so I finally decided to get it done the right way. The only obstacle I now have to face is that I am 16. I some how convinced my mother to take me and a few friends to Cliff's tattoo in Centereach, Long Island to finally put the nail in the coffin or in this case the needle in my nose. My friend Lauren was also getting a piercing but she was getting her eyebrow done. It took a while to collect all the paper work, for Cliff's you need one of their notary forms (they prefer if you pick it up in advance), your birth certificate, your legal guardian present and some form of valid id (learners permit worked for me and a school id).

We walked into the Tattoo entrance and were directed to go around back to where there was a piercing building. Once inside the reality was setting in, I was finally going to get it done right and have it to enjoy with out any complications. My friend Lauren was freaking out, which started to unsettle my calmed nerves. I became really scatter brained and misplaced all my id and money, which delayed the piercing for another 10 minutes.
Finally we were all set to go, my friend Lauren decided she would go first this way my septum piercing would not get her grossed out and sway her decision. So they led Lauren into this room with a stain glass door and with in 10 minutes she was out with a perfect eyebrow ring. This made me feel a little better knowing that everything had gone fine and nothing weird was going on behind that closed door. So it was my turn now, I just kept saying "This is going to suck," I felt like Steve-o from jackass, when he knows he has to do something and its not going to be to pleasant.
The piercer led me into the room where I met this chick that was a new intern at Cliff's. She told me how excited she was to see a Septum piercing because she had not seen one and that "I had a lot of balls" to get one done. He said he could not pierce it and put in the retainer I had with me so I had to go with a c barbell, which would hide it effectively. So I sat down on this strange looking plastic chair and my piercer (a man with a lot of tattoos, who was not ultra friendly) gloved up and got everything ready. I had made sure before hand that there were not any embarrassing things living in my nose. He then put his fingers up my nose looking for the soft membrane area in my septum. Once he found the spot, he did not mark it up at all and instead attached the clamp to it. The clamp did not hurt nearly as much as every makes it out to. He informed me that if this method did not work he would have to do it free hand with a cork, he said he does it differently then most piercer's that he knows. So I closed my eyes and he began pushing the needle threw. It seemed to take forever to get threw my septum. It was painless but sure as hell felt weird. He asked me if I was doing alright and I just responded "Ahhh mother fucker," there was a lot of time between the actual needle going threw my septum and the jewelry going in. He then informed me that the needle was going to fall, which it did hitting my leg then falling on the floor. I thought that was pretty strange. I had expected my eyes to water but they did not at all which the piercer found really strange. Then I felt a lot of blood pouring down my upper-lip, which was strange because the piercing was virtually painless. Once the jewelry was in we needed to change the two screw-on balls because they were on the wrong sides. My septum did not even feel sore, it just felt really strange. Once the jewelry was in the intern complemented me that I had the right face for it as many girls that get it don't. I asked him if he could flip the barbell up so my father woul °>ÃwŒë d not see it, he did, but I did not get to see it down. I tipped the piercer and they gave me an after-care sheet for an oral piercing, they said to just follow those directions despite the location difference.
I walked out to give my friends a rockin hug and wipe all the dried blood off of my face. I'm very happy I finally have it done! I can change the ring in about 2 months; my father still has not seen it, which is fine! If you're considering getting you're septum pierced and worried about pain or keeping it concealed, just go for it! It's the best-kept secret with piercings and did not hurt nearly as much as people make it out to. Right after getting it done I said "I'd do it a thousand times over," I defiantly would.
