Firstly, I was always interested in septum piercings and thought they looked incredibly aesthetically pleasing on the right people. I wasn't sure if I was the "right person" for a septum piercing but in a drunken mess, my friend and I made a pact that we were going to do it the next morning as soon as we woke up. And why not? I've been lusting over a septum ring for years. I decided to get a horseshoe and flip it up so it wouldn't be visible to my parents as they hate, with an extreme passion, body modification.
First Attempt
So the next morning comes around and we're delayed by the piercer about for about four hours (which is typical of our local piercer. He`s a damn good piercer but incredibly lazy) and we decided that we would just do it ourselves. For our excruciatingly long wait, he gave us two free captives of our choice and we picked out two 16g captives. I had the needles, so what could go wrong? We decided that my friend would go first but after piercing him with a 14g needle and sticking a 16g captive in, I wasn't about to let him do it to me. The blood was incredible although the piercing was perfectly straight but he had no piercing experience whatsoever and I at least had pierced my own nipples. Coincidentally, seeing the bloody result, I was more nauseous than he was after the entire procedure. I highly recommend no one attempts self-piercing at home unless properly experienced. I decided to go to a professional.
New Location, New Piercer
After putting it off for a week due to our local heroin-addicted, non-trustworthy piercer, my family and I were in Canada on vacation and I decided to do some research to find reputable piercers in the downtown Montreal area. I searched all of BME`s experiences and found two places where the result was always good: Adrenaline and Black Sun. I quickly came to learn the legal piercing age is 16 in Quebec (not sure about the rest of Canada) and I was not about to let this offer go by. Why go to an indolent piercer at home who will accept any fake ID when I can go to a clean, professional place LEGALLY? Unfortunately, Black Sun is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so my sister and I headed over to Adrenaline on Tuesday morning once getting my ID from my mother.
The Place
As soon as we walked into the shop, I knew it was going to turn out fine. My nervousness subsided when I observed the overall cleanliness and professional atmosphere of the area. I signed the papers, showed my ID, picked out the jewelry (horseshoe), smoked a cigarette to cure my jitters, and sat to wait with other nervous people.
The place also sells an incredibly variety of jewelry as well as clothes. The jewelry is somewhat pricey but top-quality. The best thing about the place, I'd have to say, is the actual piercing room. It has two dentist-like chairs and it's in almost a cubicle made of glass so you could see others being pierced and everyone could watch you being pierced. We watched a nostril piercing, a tongue piercing, and finally it was my turn.
The Procedure
My sister and I walked in and immediately she whips out the camera. The piercer introduced himself as Jimmy and we talked about local bars and general local attractions while he stuck his fingers up my nose to check out where he should pierce it. He cracked some jokes about it and he had to wait until I stopped laughing because he was probably going to break my nose if I continued it. He then stuck two swabs of iodine up my nostrils and cleaned them out thoroughly.. while everyone waiting outside was watching. Quite embarrassing. So finally he put the clamp on, my sister got ready with the camera, and I sat waiting. He pushed the needle through and honestly, it was my most painful piercing thus far. Far more pain than my nipple piercings even. Tears streamed out of my eyes (I was not crying mind you) and everyone watching was screaming "OHHHHH SHE FEELS IT!!". Although it was a little bit pricey (80 CAN, 65 US), I didn't mind paying the price at all for the awesome service. We walked out of the store satisfied with our complimentary lollipops. I flipped it up with ease and we went to go meet my mother.
The Aftercare
The aftercare is fairly simple although incredibly painful. I did sea salt soaks twice a day, twisting it slowly each time and it burns worse than the piercing itself did, but it's beginning to heal quite nicely. I'm incredibly glad I finally went through with it. If anyone is looking to find a piercer in the downtown Montreal area, I highly recommend Jimmy of Adrenaline.
