I am an Indian girl who attracted to piercings and tattoos. Before I tell you about my experience, I should give you some background information about me. I grew up in a foreign country. My parents migrated there when I was six. When I turned sixteen, I wanted to pierce my nose. So, I asked my mom for permission. But, she simply said No! Everybody knows nose piercings are a traditional thing in India but for some reason my mom hates them. The only piercings I had was my ears. After that, I begged her dozens of times to let me pierce my nose. All I wanted was a very small stud on my left nostril and I promise her that I will remove it whenever she wants. However, she never changed her position. After many attempts, I lost my interest about piercing. Years passed by and when I turned 21 my parents arranged my marriage with a guy that I loved. Following my marriage, I came to live in India with my husband and his family.

I knew she had a completely different prospective about Body Modifications than my mother. So I wanted to tell her about my love for nose piercings but I was a bit shy. One evening she showed me a box of traditional jewellery. (Passing traditional jewellery from one generation to another is a custom of most Indian families.) In that box, there was lots of jewellery including bangles, anklets, nose studs, earrings, various chains and even some septum rings. While us browsing through those I came across a beautiful pair of diamond nose studs. I was attracted to those studs from the first moment I saw them. My mother-in-law saw this and asked me that do I like to keep them. Once she asked that, my passion for piercing came back to me. I quickly replied that I like them and I like to pierce my left nostril. She said she'd arrange that and she s uggested me to pierce my both nostrils because two nose studs will add more fullness to my long nose. I was so exited finally I'm going to get the nose rings I always wanted. Once I told that to my husband, he was very happy with my decision. I decided not to tell my mom about that until it was done.
One morning my mother-in-law told me to get ready for the piercing. I was exited and so nervous at the same time. Few hours later village piercer came to our home. She told me to lie down and inspected my nose. Then she marked my both nostrils with some special ink. The diamond studs I chose had very thick poles. Therefore, the piercer told me first I should use rings with thinner poles. In order to wear the studs that I chose I should gradually increase the pole size after the healing process. First, she pierced my left nostril with a thick golden wire and then the right one. I had a strange, hard to explain sensation as she pierced me. I loved that. Piercing hurt a bit but it was bearable. Then she inserted two plain gold rings provided by my mother-in-law. Once all done I looked myself at a mirror I looked very strange and I couldn't believe it was me. I immediately called my mom and told her what I had done. She was speechless for few moments then she asked "Both nostril s?"
During the first few days of healing process, I applied a balm provided by the piercer. After that, I left them to heal. In few months, the piercings healed perfectly. This happened just about two years ago. Since then I replaced my nose studs with bigger ones for three times to stretch my piercings with the help of my mother-in-law. After one or two more stretches, I will be able to wear those diamond studs with thick poles.
My mom thinks I'm crazy, she always keeps telling me nose studs make me look stupid. When she came here for the last New Year Festival, a funny thing happened. She wanted me to remove my nose studs when I went shopping with her. So, I did. But my stretched holes were clearly visible, they looked ugly without the studs in them. My mom stared at my face for a while and told me to put my studs back. I couldn't stop laughing at her reaction.
Now I feel naked without my nose studs. Once my stretching process completed I will probably pierce my septum. I got few tattoos and some other piercings along the way. I'm glad that I have an open-minded mother-in-law and husband that support my body modifications. Now I feel more like me.
