I guess you can say I have always been fascinated with body modification. Since the tender age of four, the beauty of it all moved me in such a way that no words could explain. I guess that's why I always enjoyed being myself. My mom always told me that in order to be successful in life, you must be your own person and never follow the crowd. Being a minority living in "White America" I guess you can say I took that piece of advice with me.

I first thought of the idea of getting my ears pierced when I was six years old. I loved the way the jewelry just glistened when a ray of sunlight shone it's way. My mom wanted me to wait a while so I could be sure that it was what I really wanted, which is what she always has me do when I ask her about something such as that. I waited until I was in fourth grade to get them done and I was proud as can be. To prove to my mom that I could be responsible I took care of them myself with out any help which meant cleaning them, being gentle with them, you know the deal. I got them done with a gun at a little boutique that wasn't very smart on proper piercing issues, so I guess there was no surprise when they got infected, but I was still happy as can be. I was the only person in my class with her ears pierced and going to a straight-laced Catholic school they didn't really approve.

Fast forward two years later, me being a bit older I was craving the urge to get another piercing. I wanted to get my nostril pierced, but due to the fact that my school didn't allow body piercing I decided to get my ears double pierced. I got them done with a gun also, but luckily this time they did not get infected. I went to school the next day with a sparkle of happiness in my eyes that lasted for a whole month. Needless to say, the principal of my school wasn't the least bit happy and told me to take out one pair of earrings. I took out the pair that had already healed and that was that.

Well since then, I have changed schools which I couldn't have been more happy of. Finally, I would be able to wear the clothes that I wanted to wear, look the way I wanted to look, and generally be the person that I always wanted to be. I guess I went through a total metamorphosis. Being in a different atmosphere the idea of piercing my nostril came back to me and I wanted it more than ever, since now I had the chance. I asked my mom once about it and she said that she would think about it. Instead of begging and begging my mom to let me get it done, I spent this time researching information about the piercing. I researched for three months and during this time I found this website. It told me everything I needed to know, the pros and cons, how long it would take to heal and much more.

I gathered up my information and wrote my mom an essay giving general information about the piercing. I also gave a history of the piercing, and the information to a studio that I had called in advance and said they could do the job. Well my mom said she approved and that same week we headed down to Cheap TRX to check out the studio. The general atmosphere of the place was very nice and relaxing and I knew that I was going to enjoy the experience. My mom filled out the paper work and I picked out the jewelry that I wanted, which was a 20 gauge nostril screw with a diamond stud. We waited patiently for the jewelry to be sterilized and after it finished we headed back to piercing room for my time to shine.

It was set up sort of like a dentist's office. Everything was in order and very clean so I was pretty sure this was something that I wanted to do. My piercer Stan, went over the procedure of what he would be doing, answered any questions, and told the do's and don'ts of it all. Then it was time for the big show.

He cleaned out my nose, both inside and out. After that, he marked the place of where it was going to be, he showed me the placement and I loved it. He then put on the clamps, which I can honestly say didn't hurt and stuck the needle through. The only thing I could feel was a slight bit of pressure, but no pain at all. With the needle in my nose he took out the nostril screw and customized it to fit my nose the way it should. He then gently slid the jewelry in the nose while taking the needle out. After wiping some blood off I was done and was happy as can be. We bought some Provon (antibacterial soap) to wash the piercing with and we were on our way.

I have had the piercing for a month now and have not run into any problems. The only thing that is irritating is that at times the soap dries out my skin, but that is pretty much it. If you get a piercing get it for yourself and no one else. I find spiritual strength in my body mods and in some way I learn from them. Stan is a great piercer and if you are in the Saint Louis area I recommend Cheap TRX to you.
