My opinions have varied greatly when it comes to getting pierced. The first thing I wanted was my belly button, and when I was 17, I begged my mom to come with me so she could sign for me. She made me promise to get no more piercings, especially on my face, because she let me get this one thing. Well, here I am at college, with the parents four hours away, and I'm legally allowed to get it done without them.

First I had wanted a tongue ring, and I wanted this very badly. I thought and thought, but lots of people were telling me it looked trashy, etc. I figured since it was for my own satisfaction, I shouldn't care what they said. But recently, I took to liking nose piercings. I was thinking about getting it done, but on the Monday after Easter when I found out my roommate had gotten her tongue pierced, I knew it was time for me to step up and get one. I had trouble deciding between the tongue and the nose, because I knew with the tongue, I could hide it from my parents longer. My nose would be pretty much the first thing they would notice if it's pierced! But after some convincing arguments, I decided to do the nose, and first asked my mom just in case. She said "I'll think about it" and I knew that meant I had a good argument, because she said the same thing with my belly button!

I went ahead and went to the Music Box, where I had my belly button done and a friend's as well. I wanted something very little, so I picked out a clear stud, not the screw or hoop, and I asked tons of questions while I waited because I had read some pretty scary stories off this site! I didn't want blood running down my face, or my nose becoming infected. The guys were really nice and kept laughing because my questions never ended. Finally, after a million years it seemed like, I was called back there. I had my roommate with me, along with my best friend, and they both really wanted to see how it went. I was asked to sit, and he drew the purple dot on the left side of my nose, but I didn't really like where it was. It was too far back it seemed, so I asked him to move it up. He was happy to do that, since it was my nose he was piercing, not his. The guy was so friendly, and it helped that he was hot too! He cleaned my nose, inside and out, and then he asked if I w as ready. He told me he was going to pierce it with a 16 gauge needle, even though the stud was an 18 gauge, because the knot at the end of the stud was 16 gauge, and my nose needed to close around the stud. He put a cork in my nose, and then took this huge needle out. Needles don't really scare me; I've always been more afraid of the sight of blood. Anyway, I closed my eyes, he told me to take a deep breath, and in went the needle. Of course my eyes watered, and it stung, but it felt equivalent to my ears being pierced. Those hurt for a lot longer, since I sleep on my side. It bled a little inside my nose, and of course I had the huge purple dot where he first had placed it, but other than that, I really liked it! I went home and cleaned it off; he told me to use antibacterial soap two or three times a day with a q-tip, so I did that. Then I went and showed everyone I knew!!

That isn't the end of my tale, though. That night, I went to sleep not thinking about it, and when I woke up, I felt for it, and all I felt was some clotting of blood. I went to check it out, and it turned out that I apparently had pulled it out of my nose while I was sleeping. I found the stud in my bed, and went to the bathroom to clean off my nose and try to put it back in. It of course wouldn't, the inside had already closed off, and before I could try very hard, the stud fell down the sink. This was at 7:00 in the morning, and Music Box doesn't open til noon! I was forced to wait around, and my roommate and I went back right at 12. I got to experience it all over again, the pain was the same, and this time it bled a lot more. I could feel it running down my nose and towards my mouth, but he stopped it. I freaked out, because like I said, I hate blood! But it stopped pretty quickly. The cool thing was that he didn't charge me the $25 for the piercing, but I wa s supposed to pay for the stud. On our way out, I asked him to ring it up, and he just made this little hand motion for us to get out, so we left, and thanked him. It was all free! Last night, I slept with one of those little round band-aids on my nose, to make sure I didn't take it out, and even then, I put socks on my hands! I woke up with it still in my nose, and I love it! My mom even wrote me an email telling me she was leaning towards okay, even though my dad didn't agree with it, so I think I'll be okay!

All in all, the pain was worth it, even the second time, and it looks like it's always been there. Everyone has made a comment on it, usually good, but even if they think something bad, I don't care because it wasn't for them, it was for me, and I love it!
