I never really liked the way septum piercing looked. Then I started browsing the pictures here. Low and behold the more I looked the more I thought ... Gee... I think I'd like that done on myself. The idea bit me hard and wouldn't let go, so for about a week I browsed all the septum piercings on bme. Then I'd browse them again! I started reading the experiences and decided I'd love to have mine done. It took me some time to locate my piercer; he had quit HTC and moved to Club Tattoo. Though the folks at Club Tattoo couldn't figure out who I wanted and referred me to the wrong shop, so it took me a couple days to track down what shop he was at and get a hold of him. Finally I figured out where / when he was working and decided to get it done. I called my bestest gurly friend Pauline about my desire to get my septum done, to which she replied... "So when are we going?" I told her tonight. Hehe.

So of course Pauline is running late like she always is! And I've already got the heeby jeebies thinking about getting a new piercing. She finally showed up after what seemed like an eternity. And were off to get something to eat and go get my septum done. This was the first time I had been out to Club Tattoo in Tempe, so we got lost on the way and I was thinking man please don't let them close before I get there. FINALLY, we arrive at Club Tattoo.

We walk into the piercing shop area of Club Tattoo and say hi to John. He asks me about my inner conches (I had them punched out at a 6g by him a month earlier). Everything is fine, and they are healing great. Anyhow he asks me what I want done and I tell him I want my septum done at a 10 gauge with a niobium retainer. He smiles, and hands me the paperwork. Finish with that and head into the piercing room...

Into the piercing room; I sat down on the padded table and watched John get the necessary supplies to perform my piercing. He used some funky stuff in my nose that smelled god-awful. He then grabbed a little CBR and put it on my septum to figure out placement for my soon to be new piercing. After that he took a q-tip and broke it in half and rubbed each side on my septum. Then he looks at me and says "Okay, let's do this, lie back and close your eyes." So I lie down and get into the right position for him. All this time I hadn't looked at the tray with the needle in it. I'm terribly afraid of needles which is odd considering my like for piercings. Okay, so he gets out the receiving tube and sticks it on the left side of my septum; then he lines up the needle with the tube on the other side. He tells me to start breathing slowly and deeply and try to relax. So I'm lying on the table slowing my breathing and trying to relax as well as I can. Pauline pipes up out of nowhere, "God damn Steven that's a huge fucking needle." It caught my breath and I started panicking... Though I know it was just a 10 gauge needle it still scared me. I was able to resume my slow deep breathing, and he tells me "okay, next breath were going." My next breath I feel him push the needle through. Yes it was a bright flash of pain, but it was only for a few moments. He was able to get the retainer into the piercing with no problems. I'm lying there thinking "My eyes aren't watering!" while he's soaking up the blood on the inside of my nose with q-tips. After a few moments he tells me to sit up and I'm still stoked about not getting all teary eyed... and BAM the waterworks come. Took him a few more minutes to get my bleeding under control; I asked him to leave my retainer down so I could show it off that evening. I hopped down from the table told him how much I loved him and how great of a piercer he is. Then proceeded to pay for the piercing he told me h ow to soak it... which was funny, said to stick my nose in the salt wate r and blow bubbles for ten minutes!

I'm now on day two of having my septum done, and I absolutely love it. When I have the retainer flipped up inside my nose it feels very very odd. Kind of like I've got some massive booger action going on in my nose. It's still very sore to the touch. My lady came over the night after I got it pierced, and while we were getting frisky she bumped it with her hand and I felt a bright flash of pain go through my face. As quickly as the pain came it left, my nose was a bit sore, but nothing really big. I'm soaking it two times a day right now with sea-salt water. When I have real boogers going on in my nose I just get out a couple q-tips and get up in there with 'em and root 'em out.

I'd recommend this piercing if you are thinking about it. It's painful, but only for a moment and even then it's a bearable pain. You can always get it done with a retainer so that no-one will be able to see it unless you want them to. It does make blowing your nose / other things involving your nose interesting. I plan to stretch mine down to an 8 gauge, then I'll leave it alone. Once again if you're thinking about it, just go get it done!
