I wanted my septum pierced really bad, but I was afraid of the pain.A lot of people told me It was like getting kicked really hard in the face, and then I heard my friend was piercing people cheap for his experience portfolio (he wanted to be a tattooist/piercer obviously If you couldn't tell)so I asked my mom If I could. Sure enough I had to push her,and she finally said yes. I was so happy. So the time came when they came to pierce me.I was so nervous.I was playing Bloodrayne at the time and I told him that I was playing a game but I would be done shortly just to buy time to calm down my nerves. It did not work, I'll tell you that, but I went through with it.He took two of our dining room chairs and set up his little table with his piercing supplies and began the cleaning process. He then placed the septum clamps on my septum and pushed the needle through.Viola! It was pierced. I was so happy with it.It wasn't anything like they said the pain would be and I have an extreme ly low pain tolerance. So yes everything went alright.

But later on my friend mentioned to me that it was crooked.. so I went to look in the mirror and it totally was! I mean you can't even imagine how crooked it was.Imagine the worst and thats how it was.I bought a belly button ring that was curved to try and see if that would help it any.. but It made it entirely worse. I had one ball continously hanging out of my nose and it looked like a giant booger! So i took it out,and two weeks later I had it re-pierced again at Black River Tattoo.

The lady there was really nice, really experienced ,and did her job exceptionally well. She had to stop in the middle of the piercing to straighten it out as it was trying to go crooked again. It bled a little bit but not much at all. I usually go to Personal Image to get my piercings done(great shop) but Black River is great too.

The second time was a bit more painful hence it was going through fresh new scar tissue but nothing too unbearable. She used a receiving tube this time not septum clamps that have been used before.Everything was all sterilized, I watched her rip the needle out of its package and all of her tools were run through an autoclave machine before she used them.I was happy she did so. Dirtiness in this kind of procedure, or any other could have been really gross and messy.Ew. Most people, their eyes water but mine didn't either time.

I had really bad headaches a few times but that was it. The only thing I really hated was that sometimes you would get little crusties on it and it was gross.. and other times you would pull your septum ring and there would be a crusty that went through your piercing and oh my god! It hurt so bad.Ouch. Especially since I had a septum retainer.. An enormous one. It was so long. It took awhile to get used to. But I did eventually.I cleaned my new septum piercing with Listerine. She told me to buy the brown kind, but I used the minty kind, I don't think your supposed to do that..but I did anyway. It didn't hurt anything.I had it pierced on February 2nd of 2003 so that would almost be a year since I had it pierced. She gave me a huge little booklet of cleaning procedures. It listed cleaning procedures for all types of piercings,(Nose, nipple, tongue, eyebrow, etc.) not just septum piercings.

This will probably come in handy since my septum is not my only piercing.I guess it just depends on your pain tolerance. I thought both of my lip piercings were way more painful than my septum but to other people, lip piercings are pain-free.It's just how you handle pain.

I would really recommend going to a professional tattooist or tattoo shop that has a lot of experience because that would really suck to have to go through what I had to.That is probably just common sense. I felt so heart broken when I had to take it out, but It was worth it in the long run. It's now healed up perfectly. No visible flaws that I can see of. It really is a fun piercing, and yes you will get the occasional moron who will ask you "Why do you have a bull ring?!" and then there will be the really annoying people who ask you why you had that pierced. It's like.. Because I wanted to? Some people are just moronic to the max. You have my permission to slap them..Or tie them up and throw them in a closet. Whatever comes first.
