I must tell you now that I am kind of addicted to body piercing. I'm not a big fan of ear piercing but everything else. I currently have 7 piercings which include 2 ears stretched to 8 gage, a PA at 8 gage, both nipples at 10 gage, belly button at 10 gage(now retired), and my frenum pierced at 10 gage with a straight barbell. All of my piercings except for the PA, frenum and septum were done by Bonnie at Bear's Skin Art. Taylor in Red Deer did my P.A. and Corey now in Red Deer did my frenum. Aron did my septum.

I found BME a few years ago by accident. So I like reading all the stories and looking at the pictures. I find they help so much when you go to get stuff done, anyway enough babbling. I decided to get a septum piercing. I love the way this piercing looks when it's done right and I shouldn't get slack from this at work. So I called up the shop and spoke to Aron and found out that Corey had moved to Red Deer. I was then left with the decision or Bonnie or Aron. Aron seemed to have all the answers to my questions so I decided to check out the pictures at his shop. About a week later I booked an appointment to get my septum done. I picked out two pieces of jewelry a CBR and a plug, both 10 gage. I'd need the CBR for after work purposes and the plug for during work. I eventually wanted to switch to the retainer as the plug is a little visible but the would have to order t hat in for me.
I had to go get some cash because they don't have interac and when I returned I had to fill out the required paperwork. With the paperwork came an aftercare sheet which you have to read before you can get anything done and you also get to take this home.
He prepped the room and I went in. The room had a couple posters up on the wall and a doctors chair in the middle of the room. The chair is similar to the kind you find at a dentist office. It had a paper sheet on top of it for my protection. He was listening to rap music when I came in and you could here it in the piercing room. All of the tools he was going to use was laid out on a table for easy access. He wanted to make sure I didn't have any more questions before we started. Once he was satisfied and I was too the procedure commenced. He cleaned the area 1st and found my septum using his fingers. He told me that the septum piercing should work with my nose. He placed the jewelry up to my septum and marked it with a marker. It took him a long time to do this before he was satisfied. He asked me what I thought of the placement and I thought it looked good so we were now good to go. Then he changed gloves again.
He told me as I was laying on the chair that he was ready to begin and told me to start breathing deep. A process I am very familiar with now, after 7 piercings you kind of know what to expect. I was relatively calm even though some guy is about to stick a sharp needle though my nose. He clamped the forceps (which actually didn't pinch too much), I think because I'm not looking at what he was doing and continued breathing. He said take 3 deep breaths and I felt a brief period of minor pain but not more than a tenth of a second and the needle was through. I couldn't believe that it was done that fast. The tears flowed though and couldn't be stopped. Aron joked about there's no need to cry. The ring followed and I sat up to look at the new piercing. Both of us were shocked to see it was drastically crooked. We decided to try again. Aron thought he might be able to straighten it with a scalpel and he tried that but it didn't work. So we had to re-pierce it once again. By this time my nose was super tender and I actually contemplated not getting it done. It hurt so bad. We re-did the whole procedure again and this time it was a lot straighter. Still not perfect but I could live with that. He told me that give it some time and it might straighten out a bit do to the weight of the jewelry.
Aron went over the after care and gave me some sea salt to take home. Aron was really professional and kept me calm the whole time. If you have any hesitations about this piercing I say ask questions and when you have all the answers then get it done. It really did hurt and their was lots of blood but barely any when the jewelry was in. It's been about a year and I hardly notice that I had it pierced. I now use a 10 gage niobium septum retainer. I experimented with a stainless steel retainer that looks like a staple. It fell out twice while I was blowing my nose, I would recommend the niobium one due to comfort and fit. Plus it doesn't want to come out of your nose all of the time. It doesn't hurt anymore and I have to think if it's down or not. After care is simple. Just soak it in a saline solution twice a day and remove any crusties. If you want to contact me for further questions regarding this or any other piercing that I have feel free to do so. Happy Piercing!! DOC
