Before I begin I strongly suggest to never try piercing yourself! It's worth the money just to get it done professionally! So kids don't try the following at home! O.K. now on with my story!

My first nose piercing experience was when I was in 7th grade. My parents said no way to the idea when I asked them if I could get it done. So being the little brat I was I got a sewing needle, put it under a lighter and selected one of the studs I had from when I got my ears pierced. With out any hesitation I started to push the needle through. A sewing needle must not be that sharp because it took forever just to get it through.

I got it almost through when the needle seemed to be stuck and couldn't go any further. I stuck my finger in my nose (ewwww!) and didn't feel the sharp end of the needle. I pushed harder and harder till I heard a pop and felt a throbbing pain in my nose. The inner skin of you nose is extremely thick. I did it!

Now time to put the stud in. I had a harder time getting that in then I did the needle. The hole was very crooked! I liked where I placed it, but I don't think it was very strait. Then on top of that the ball on the stud was a lot bigger then I wanted and the post wasn't long enough. I decided just to take it out and let it heal. I asked my mom one last time if I could get it professionally done and she said no. I admitted to her that I tried and that made it even worse for me. I kissed that idea bye bye for then.

A few years later I got a wild hair up my bum and wanted to try piercing my nose again. I looked around this time for a better, longer stud. I picked one of my silver earrings and went at it again with the sewing needle. I slowly got it through, but decided to quit when I couldn't get it through the tough inner skin. I stood there looking at myself in the mirror with a red nose and feeling very defeated. I finally threw that needle away and decided just to wait till I was older.

Four years after my first attempt, my sixteenth birthday was rolling around. I wanted to mark the occasion with a tattoo, but what I didn't know was it was against the laws for minors in California to get tattoos even with a parent. I still wanted to do something cool and permanent to remember that time forever so my next choice was a nose and/or a navel piercing. My mum let me get both, but I like my nose ring more.

We were going to go on my birthday, but I was very anxious and begged my mum to take me a week before. It was almost a spur of the moment thing and we ended up going right before closing time. I decided to go to A&D because my mum got her tattoo there. They are very helpful, clean, super nice and serious about their work. The only piercer there at the time was this cool dude named Vince. My mum and I signed the forms, showed him my ID etc. and then he showed me to one of the rooms.

I hopped up on the table and watched him prepare the tools and stuff. As I watched I began to get butterflies in my tummy. I wasn't scared, but very excited! My nose was first. He swabbed the inside and outside of my nostril with iodine then wiped it off with a cotton ball. He marked the outside and let me check it. Perfect! He told me to breathe in and to breathe out. I shut my eyes tight, breathed in and then out. When I breathed out I felt the needle go through. It felt less painful then getting a shot actually and I was surprised that my nose didn't bleed, but my eyes did water a bit though. Next he did my navel, but that's a whole different story.

I wish my mother had taken this whole event as good as I did. She made the mistake of watching the guy plunge a carpet needle through my nose (she said that's what the needle looked like to her). It made her feel sick and lightheaded. We had to wait a little bit at the studio before she got behind the wheel. This sounds cruel, but it was almost funny.

My nose healed very quickly. It hurt a little for the next few days like if I accidentally touched it or when I had to turn it. With in two to three weeks it was totally healed. I didn't have any problems with infection, redness or swelling. I took very good care of it.

Also for those who are afraid of those nose screws, don't be! They are super easy to get in. Just feed the curve in then slowly push and voila! So don't let that stop you from getting a nose ring. If you want one you should get it. Trust me they are great!
