It took over six months to convince my mother that getting my nose pierced was a good idea. There are quite a few facial piercings I'd like to get done such as lip, labret, tongue, tongue web and eyebrow but I figured I would start small. I only wanted a small stud in my right nostril; I have a thing about piercings and tattoos being only on my right side.

It was a little more than a week ago when my parents drove me to Art Addictions in downtown Brampton. My dad still didn't agree with it but I had mum on my side, which meant it was going to be done anyways. He went to look at tattoos while mum and I approached the counter. A chick with an awesome labret piercing asked if she could help us, for the life of me I can't remember her name. We told her what we wanted and she took me to a small room in the back.

Art Addictions is the best tattoo parlour in Brampton. They're health board inspected and everything. This was actually my very first time inside. Mum had already seen two navel piercings done there and thought they were pretty good. Only problem is they're expensive. Seventy-five dollars for a simple nose piercing including jewelry.

I sat down in a reclined chair that reminded me of the dentist only funkier. The chick looked me up and down and asked if I had gone to the Stones Concert in TO. I didn't but she did, she told me her whole day. It put me at ease that she talked to me for a few minutes instead of just sticking a needle through my nostril. She began to explain the procedure to me. I had thought they were going to use a gun for some reason but found out it'd be a hollow needle instead.

I leaned back and she put the tube up my nostril to catch the needle and told me to close my eyes. She pressed the needle through my nostril and I could feel the pressure and the pinch of pain as it slid through into the tube. She put the gold nose screw I bought in the hole and removed the tube. My eyes were watering really badly and she put some tissue in my hands to handle and tears that might fall.

She inspected her job "well it looks like you're a non bleeder". Then she told me to sit up, when I did several drops of blood fell on my chest. It somewhat panicked the chick and the tissues for my eyes were used for my heavily bleeding nose. More tissues were needed and she actually stuck her finger up my nose to apply pressure. It's an odd experience having someone's finger up your nose. By this time of course there was no pain, only blood. It took a good fifteen minutes to stop the bleeding, so the majority of the time it took to have my nose done was soaking up blood.

After the bleeding was under control, the artist showed me the needle she had used. She explained that they only use needles once before she took two pairs of pliers and broke it in half. She then explained the aftercare procedures, (they also give you a little reminder card on how to clean your piercing) and sent me on my way.

Despite all the bleeding I thought it was a great experience. Afterwards my mum commented on how feminine it was. She is even thinking of getting it done herself. My dad has pleaded that she not though. I've gotten so many comments on how nice it looks and it's healing really well. I put a new stud in it today (which really wasn't a good idea) but it looked funny so I put the gold nose screw back in. It didn't go in the first 4 times and I panicked thinking the hole was closing, I eventually got it back in though.

I think I got my nose pierced to accessorize. I already wear more jewelry than socially acceptable and the more holes I have in my face the more sparkly things I can wear. The pain doesn't bother me, in fact it gives me a rush, but if you ask my mum I think it hurt like a bitch. Me and my nose piercing are getting along quite well now, my dad's even starting to like it. Only problem I have is getting it caught in towels and t-shirts and such. That and the constant feeling of having something in my nose.

I'm all up for body modification, if it makes you appear the way you want and makes you feel better about yourself. Well that was my story; hopefully I'll many more in the future.
