The day I started college I made a new friend. (That's the way it always starts. Hopefully.) The two of us both really enjoyed piercings and tattoos. By this, I mean looking at pictures, reading about experiences, actually getting pierced, etc. Upon discussion, she told me that she though I would look good with my septum pierced. I disagreed saying that I thought it would look horrible on me and that I would never get it done. Needless to say, the next year I was looking to get another piercing. (Piercings are addictive, for me at least.) I couldn't decide what to get, though. Seeing as though I had to hide whatever piercing I got from my parents, it was a very hard decision to make. I decided that I may actually get my septum done since I couldn't think of anything else. I would take a spare earring and throw it on my septum and see how it looked. I wasn't a huge fan. I figured if I really didn't like it I would take it out or just put the retainer in and shove it up into m y nose. I decided to go for it.

There is only one place I go to in Allentown for my piercings and tattoo. Quillian is, most definitely, the cleanest place in the entire area. The guys who work there are also super nice and make you feel really comfortable. So, of course, I decided to go there. I showed up and had a wait a little bit seeing as though they don't make appointments for piercings and there were a couple people there before I showed up. I waited no more than a half hour and went into the other room. I was prepared to be pierced.

I sat down in the chair and Brendan inspected my septum. He washed it off. There was a sort of stinging sensation, probably due to the fact that the skin inside the nose is very sensitive. My eyes started watering a bit, but it didn't hurt bad at all. He changed his gloves for about the 2nd or 3rd time after getting the needle, clamp, lube and jewelery out. He found the spot in my nose that he would pierce (through the 2nd type of cartilage in the septum, far forward toward the tip of the nose) and put the clamp on. I started doing the in-and-out breathing that I have always been told to do when getting pierced. Deep breath in through the nose, deep breath out through the mouth. He put the needle through and I felt a bit of pain. My eyes started tearing a lot. He took the clamp off from around the needle and put the jewelery in. I didn't even really feel the transfer. After he was done, he let me check it out and make sure I liked the way it looked. Brendan and my friend jok ed around with me a bit about crying. (For the last time, I wasn't crying. My eyes just teared a bit!) I paid for the services and left to go back to school.

Looking back, I am very glad I got it done. Despite the fact that I didn't exactly want it in the beginning, I am so pleased with the way it looks. Now that it is the summer and I am living at home, I can't keep the ring showing, but once I get back to school, it is coming back out of hiding. I can't wait!

As for Quillian, I have never been displeased with anything I have gotten there; being a piercing or a tattoo. In fact, I am going back for more. If you live in that area, and you are looking for something to be done, definitely check it out. It's a wonderful place with wonderful employees.

I am not trying to tell those of you whose parents are against piercings to go out and get this done because it is something you can get without them seeing. That's pure stupidity. But if you are looking for something, you don't mind a bit of pain and you like the way it will look, go for it. It is a rush. Don't be stupid like me, though, and risk wasting money if you don't like what you got. There is always the chance you may not like what you get. However, you should always make sure that there is a good chance you'll like it beforehand. Try a ring on. Clip it to your nose. Check it out. It may not be for you. On the other hand, it may look great. But check it out first. You may regret it once it is all said and done. I was lucky enough to love the outcome of my risk.
