I first discovered nasallangs on BME, there was a picture of one person who had one, now there are a couple more, but after many months it still fascinated me, so, I decided I wanted one. I already had my septum pierced, and stretched, so I didn't know how I was going to put a 14g barbell through my nose and still keep the septum hole stretched. Then, I got a 6g flesh tunnel for my septum, which was extremely difficult to get in because they definitely weren't made for septums. I had kind of forgot about the nasallang, since I ruled it out as being impossible. But....the flesh tunnel has a hole going through it, would a 14g barbell fit through that? YEP!

Another concern I had was my pierced nostril, would the nasallang hole be too close? I played around with various things figuring out where the two holes would go in each nostril, and decided that there was plenty of room, so, after measuring how long of a barbell I would need, I ordered one from the place I get piercings I can't do myself. An inch and 3/8 seemed to be the right length. Finally after a week of waiting the barbell came, so after going to my piercing shop and getting two surface piercings on my arm, I brought the barbell home and two days later decided it was time for the nasallang.

I had everything ready, I didn't know what I would need, or how I was going to do this. I was going to use one needle, because I figured it would be sharp enough, even though I never use a needle twice. My needles are new and sterile, of course. I had a clamp in case I needed it, I had many qtips, and the stuff I use to clean piercings. Usually I use antibiotic ointment for lubrication, but I had given the rest of mine to a friend for her new tattoo, so I took out my tattoo goo instead, haha. After marking each hole and taking the needle out of its package, I tried piercing the right nostril first from the outside going in. It hurt REALLY bad, and I'm really good with pain. It was also really think cartilage, so it was hard to push through, so I thought to myself "I can't do this." So...I took the needle out, but then decided to try from the inside, which meant I would have to guess where the hole should be, since I couldn't mark the inside of my nostril and see it. I guessed perfect, and after a really long time got the needle through and the barbell through. After such horrible pain I said, "no, I can't do the other side, I'll just put a shorter barbell in, or a ring. But then I did the other side, which hurt just as much, and was like a zillionth of an inch lower than the other hole. The crookedness isn't visible unless I mention it, so I don't care. I was just glad to finally finish doing it. For the second hole I decided to use a second needle, so that I was sure it would be as sharp as possible. The tattoo goo didn't really do anything for lubrication, but at least it smelled nice.

The whole procedure took me about 45 minutes, with a needle sitting in either nostril for most of those minutes. It was extremely difficult to push the needle through all that cartilage. After the first hole was done, I think I got a pretty good endorphin rush, which is probably why I was able to do the second hole rather than giving up.

Now it's been about 4 days and I haven't really had any problems with it, except that the left side is really tender sometimes. Soaking my nose in sea salt water helped, but it still just went back to hurting. I'm really glad I did it, though, because it's a piercing I've never seen on anyone before, like my arm piercings, although those are getting more popular. I'm really interested in seeing how this heals, and also wish I could see an x-ray of my head. There would be a nostril screw, a 1 3/8 inch barbell, and a 6g flesh tunnel, which is a huge chunk of metal. Seeing the nostril screw in an x-ray was hilarious enough, but all this other metal in there would be insane. I think next month I'm getting my teeth x-rayed, so hopefully if I can get a copy of the x-ray I'll scan it and send it to BME.

So, after weeks of playing around with various pieces of jewelry in my nose seeing if the nasallang would work or not, I finally have it, and it's almost perfect. It doesn't pull on the rest of my nose, so my nose won't be deformed or anything. And, I only had to pay for the barbell instead of some ridiculous price at a piercing studio.

I definitely don't recommend doing this piercing yourself, though, unless you're experienced with piercings and know everything there is to know about what you're doing.
