I would like to start out by saying that my piercer is my best friend. Both of us are professionally trained to pierce, and we trust each other with our lives. She is one of only 4 people in Ohio that I will ever let touch me.

It went very smoothly other than the fact that my septum cartilage makes piercings crooked when it compresses after the jewelry is in and the clamps are off. The hole on the right side of my septum pushed back further toward my lip, so I had to take personal measures to fix this.
My first septum isn't even totally healed, so I know that I should have waited, but you know how it is when you REALLY want something. So I have been contemplating getting a second septum piercing. I know that it is not very common and I've only heard of a few people with this done, so it is something different, especially in Ohio.
I have also realized that when you want your friends to pierce you, it can take far more time than if you were a normal customer. Granted, I don't have to pay for the majority of my piercings since I do hers when she wants something new, It still sucks when you have something set in your mind and you want it like right now, and she doesn't feel like it.
I told her when I got to Akron Friday night I wanted to do it, but we are both so and we always go side tracked. When I got there, I went straight to her second job, which is a dancer and hung out with her until midnight when she was ready to go home.
Saturday, she had to be at the shop by 1:00 pm for an appointment that she had set up. We were at the shop until 6:30 pm because we had to go to see her roommates band. They weren't supposed to play until 9:00 pm, but the schedule go messed up so they were going on stage at 7:30 pm and we are their stage dancers, so we have to be there. So Sunday rolled around and nobody felt like doing anything. Finally, Sunday night I told her it was time.
She asked me a few times if I really wanted to do this, and I was like, of course I want it, or I wouldn't have asked you to do it.
It is so hard to find mods anymore that a million people don't have, and I have yet to see anyone in the Cleveland, Akron, Canton area that has a double septum, so I had to have it.
We decided to do the piercing freehand instead of using clamps, I had the jewelry I wanted to use freshly autoclaved, and we were ready to rock. I decided to go with an internally threaded 16g surgical stainless steel circular barbell with pink balls that I had picked up from Industrial Strength.
I strongly suggest always using internally threaded jewelry, since it caused far less trauma to the fresh piercing.
I sat in the chair, knowing full well what I was in for, having been through it already with one septum piercing. I started the calm breathing.(Being a piercer myself makes it a lot easier to remain calm.) On my third deep breath in and exhale, she pushed the needle through.
Perfection! Yeah, until she put the jewelry in. As soon as the jewelry was in, yet again, it was crooked as hell.
I swear, I can't win. I know what I need to do to straighten it out, so today, I have my retainer in my healed septum piercing flipped up, the circular barbell in my fresh one flipped up, and I look like an idiot with a piece of cotton shove up my right nostril pushing up the right side upward, so that it will heal in a more straight manner.
All in all, it really isn't that bad, and I would rather do this than have a septum piercing that was crooked when it healed. In all reality, a little discomfort now is far better than a crooked, healed piercing.
I am not saying that you should have to do this, but in some cases(like mine), septums sit funny after being pierced so you have to make them sit where you think that they should.
I do strongly suggest getting a septum piercing. It is really virtually painless, and other than your eyes watering, it doesn't really make you jump or anything, but don't be surprised if it doesn't look perfect when you first get it done, you may have to "persuade" it a little to straiten out.
If you do by chance know anyone else with a double septum, let me know. I am interested in seeing how many are out there!
